Get ready to put together a spaceship again, as the deep space colony sim Stardeus has a really massive update out now and it's looking great. Basically, it's RimWorld on a spaceship and it's cool.

From developer Kodo Linija and publisher Paradox Arc (Paradox Interactive), it's a game that's easy to lose not just hours in but days at a time. Set aboard a damaged starship, crewed by drones and hibernating human survivors as the game's immortal AI, you'll command drones to repair the starship, make critical decisions about the human crew, and explore a procedurally generated universe filled with complexity.

This big new update, named Bioverse, is the biggest since it entered Early Access back in 2022 adding in:

  • Revamped AI system
  • Enhanced combat mechanics
  • Innovative body part system, including new health, stats, conditions, and abilities system
  • New content: Additional scenario, new devices, materials, species and more
  • New trade system
  • Twitch Integration

It has full Native Linux support and it's Steam Deck Verified!

Well worth looking into. Had a blast playing it pre-release when doing Steam Deck checks with the developer, and it's grown a lot since then. It has a Very Positive rating on Steam too from over a thousand players.

Available to buy on GOG and Steam.

I think I used to have this on my wishlist a LONG time ago? Or am I thinking of something else similar? I can't remember. But anyway, I just wanted to comment on ... WTF are those screenshots on the steam page listing!! Specifically the 3rd screenshot they have there... It's this:

holy moly what on earth!!
Quoting: JarmerI think I used to have this on my wishlist a LONG time ago? Or am I thinking of something else similar?

There's quite a few superficially similar games - with either a top down Prison Architect/Rimworld visual style, or a Dwarf Fortress/Rimworld gameplay (or both):

Space Haven
The Last Starship
Cosmoteer
Starship Theory
Starfall Protocol
Starship Colony

They're a mix of "looks similar but isn't", "looks different but is similar", abandoned, unfinished or unreleased.

Stardeus is still in development, so technically unfinished, but it's certainly finished enough to be very playable. I've chucked over 100 hours into playing it (and I don't have the opportunity to do that with too many games these days) - and there's been a ton of updates since I last played it.

Anyway, there's a demo on the Steam page, so it's definitely worth trying.
