July 22nd saw a new release of Proton Experimental from Valve, as work continues as always towards the next main release of the Windows compatibility layer for Linux desktop and Steam Deck.

Here's what's included in the latest update:

  • Fixed AVPro playback in VRChat.
  • Fixed cutscene playback in Iragon games.
  • Fixed font rendering in Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet.
  • Fixed Burnout Paradise Remastered crashing when an input video device is plugged in.
  • Fixed Knowledge, or know Lady crashing about 10 minutes after launch.
  • Fixed Once Human crashing when trying to join a server or opening the EULA on fresh Proton prefixes.
  • Fixed Ubisoft Connect requiring a manual log in with a new prefix with Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon (some other games may still suffer from that similarly as on Windows with a clean Ubisoft Connect install).
  • Fixed text not being displayed during the installation of EA Desktop launcher.
  • Fixed 9.0-2 regression: Warhammer 40,000: Darktide no longer freezes randomly when processing shaders for the cache.
  • Fixed 9.0 regressions:
    • Alan Wake's American Nightmare's DLC is playable again.

From the changelog.

It will just show up as an update for Proton Experimental in your Steam Downloads.

Does Burnout: Paradise is supported on Linux officially? I own license and will play, but be sad if they ban me for playing on Linux. It is multiplayer game, after all!

Hell yeah. I have been waiting a long time for that one. I wish they clarified if you still needed --enable-avpro-in-proton in launch options after this fix though.

My experience of Proton fixes thus far has been that you no longer need the launch options after they're rolled out. All you can do is try it out, though.

I'll have to try experimental, but my only real issue is the stutter when moving the mouse

Whelp stutter is largely fixed with experimental, but I still suffer from the "black void" issue, making it unplayable.
