After being in Early Access for a few years, Unknown Origin Games have now fully launched their mystical colony sim Odd Realm.

A pretty complex game inspired by the likes of RimWorld and Dwarf Fortress, it's one where you could end up spending days in it. Start off with nothing, and eventually watch as your little pixel people do your bidding and build up a big bustling colony. Dig deep for riches and watch out for some less than friendly neighbours.

Speaking about the release the developer said: "I started making this little game at the beginning of 2017. I didn't know what I was getting into at the time, but I knew I wanted to make a colony sim set in a strange, little fantasy world. It has been a monumental challenge, and it's because of your constant patience and encouragement that I was able to get to 1.0. Especially over the last several months where players have helped me find bugs in the beta or simply kept me company. So, for that, truly, a genuine thank you to all of you.

And if you are a new player, thank you for playing my game. It means a great deal to me.

Now, this isn't the end. We are just getting cooking! If you've read my previous posts, you know that there's a lot planned for upcoming versions of the game."

The developer confirmed more is coming including another playable race, overworld conquest, deeper history and events, modding support, localization and more content overall.

Current features:

  • 4 races to start your kingdom with, each with unique playstyles.
  • Unlimited procedurally generated deserts, mountains, tropical islands, and frozen tundras.
  • Dynamic weather and seasons unique to each biome.
  • Hundreds of plants, animals, and items.
  • A research tree with options for each race that unlock new blueprints and rooms.
  • Outfit individual settlers with tools, weapons, and gear.
  • Manage your kingdom and view other kingdoms on an expansive world map.
  • Battle raiders, invading armies, and underground horrors.

Odd Realm has Native Linux support and is rated Steam Deck Playable.

Been following this game and its developer for years - fantastic game, and thrilled to see it reach 1.0!

It's a bit less narrative-oriented than games such as Dwarf Fortress or Rimworld, but in its own right a great experience and really atmospheric town builder. Strongly recommend!
