Following on from the success of the downhill extreme sports game Descenders, developer RageSquid and publisher No More Robots have announced the much bigger Descenders Next is coming.

They said that while the original focused on mountain biking, and did a pretty good job of it (I certainly enjoyed the challenge), this time they're aiming much higher. Their goal, they said, is to "create the only extreme sports game that anyone will ever need, ever again". When it releases sometime in 2025 it will come with "as many extreme sports as we can" that currently includes the addition of boarding sports and as long as players keep coming back they plan to keep adding more to it.

Speaking to the publisher about Linux support like the first game they told me: "Outside of Windows, we'll have to see whether Mac and Linux players are interested. We'll definitely do Steam Deck though".

Features:

  • Ride your way, every way: Find your own path and attack the mountain in style
  • Ride solo or multiplayer: Be a lone wolf, or join players all around the world in grinding for those points
  • Freestyle board controls: Control every subtle movement of your rider, with in-depth physics and trick systems to learn and master
  • Showcase your skills: Keep and show off your incredible plays - you've got all the tools you need to make the best edits
  • Build your reputation: A fully-featured character customizer and rep system so you can unlock new threads, gear and boards
  • Ride to banger after banger: Descend in style to the perfect soundtrack from Monstercat
  • Become the next Descender: Complete all the challenges the world has to offer, and reach the ranks of the legendary Descenders!

You can follow it along on Steam now.

Descenders is a favorite of mine I bought it twice even.
Once on Switch before Steam Deck was a thing, just nice to have a pgysical copy.

It did have some control issues as I kept forgetting about the trick buttons for instance and sometimes it was a little bland and repetitive but it was still a good game to chill out to.

It's been awhile since I've had a good snowboard game to just jump into and this looks like it would fit well.

Glad they are going for all the downhill sports they can manage that'll be nice.

Maybe unicycles and hang gliders could fit somehow?
How bout down hill ninja running grappling hook time trails?
Hamster ball?
Hope some goofy junk gets in there too but Snowboarding looks like it'll be nice.
Hope for splitscreen co-op too.

Looking forward to this one.
Boarding sports? Arrr, matey! Like "Deck rush" and "cutlass brandishing" (both "artistic" and "rhythmic" of course)?

"Three-peg-legged race", "Timber Shivering", "Hookball" and "Jolly Rogering". No wait, scratch the last one. But you could quite easily think up a bunch of silly events for a pirate themed "sports" game à la Blood 'n Guts on the C64. (But maybe leave out the cat throwing...)
I only ever cared for the bikes but since the first game is SO GOOD I will be wishlisting anyway.
