After re-releasing the first Resident Evil, GOG have now done the same for Resident Evil 2, getting a load of improvements in along the way. They haven't yet given a date on when Resident Evil 3 will land other than "soon" but that will also come with similar improvements.

All the improvements in this version:

  • Full compatibility with Windows 10 and Windows 11.
  • 6 localizations of the game included (English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese).
  • Improved DirectX game renderer.
  • New rendering options (Windowed Mode, Vertical Synchronization Control, Gamma Correction, Integer Scaling and more).
  • Improved audio volume and panning.
  • Improved cutscenes and subtitles.
  • Improved savegame manager.
  • Improved game video player.
  • Issue-less game exit.
  • Improved game registry settings.
  • Improved key-binding settings and audio settings screens.
  • Improved end credits in the German version.
  • Fixed issues with Rooms 114 and 115 (missing text), Room 210 (invisible diary), and Room 409 (looping sound).
  • Full support for modern controllers (Sony DualSense, Sony DualShock4, Microsoft Xbox Series, Microsoft Xbox One, Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch, Logitech F series and many more) with optimal button binding regardless of the hardware and wireless mode.
  • 4th Survivor and Tofu modes enabled from the very beginning.

Since it's a classic Windows game you'll need Wine / Proton to play it. Easy enough thanks to the Heroic Games Launcher which only recently had some big GOG improvements.

Don't forget there's also a big GOG sale now on.

When GOG starts properly supporting Linux as an equal to Spydows, releasing an official Galaxy client for Linux for starters, THEN i will reconsider putting some money for them.

Currently 100% goes to Steam because they embrace Linux

When there's a choice, I always go Steam first, GOG maybe. Though I refuse to use EGS ever, even if it's the only option. But in certain cases, like this RE trilogy or The Suffering dilogy, GOG is acceptable.

You realize that saying this here is really off topic, do you? Except if you say it in every GOG related news?
These 3 Resident Evil games are/will be only available at GOG at the moment, Linux support is not really the topic IMHO...

I can see why these 3 Resident Evil games would be on GOG since Steam pretty much got everything else from this series and GOG are the ones that are making improvements to this game. If Capcom were to make these changes to the game, then I can see it also appear on Steam.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but in the case of gog galaxy, would a native Linux app bring something to the users. Steam has more features on linux then galaxy on windows. There is no way that gog could put as many resources in Linux that valve, so why not sticking with heroic, comet, minigakaxy or off line installer.

Just like with RE1, this doesn't work for me on Heroic with Wine. I can get to the menu (with no sound effects), but as soon as I start the story and the narration kicks in...it gives me an error message and basically crashes.

I expect RE3 to be the same when it releases. Guess I'm sticking to emulating the PS1 or other console releases; I'm not bending over backwards to figure out why these GOG releases don't work.
