While Roblox does still remain blocked on Linux with Wine, as usual the community finds a way. The Vinegar team recently revealed Sober, a currently closed-source specialized runtime for the Android version of Roblox.

So if you're really desperate to get Roblox on Linux, Sober seems like the main way right now. Since it uses the Android version, you do need to manually download a Roblox APK which can be done from various mirror websites like apkmirror. There's lots of these sites where you can grab an APK, do so at your own risk.

The Vinegar team explain: "Sober crafts a specialized runtime for the Android version of Roblox. Effectively, it bridges the small gap between Android and Linux, allowing for a native unofficial port."

As you can see from my shot below, it works:

Currently it's available to download as Flatpak, but not from Flathub as they're hosting it themselves.

Like before when playing Roblox in Wine though, it's possible (and probable) it will be blocked eventually. Although, it may end up being a little more difficult with something like this.

See more on the Sober website.

Quoting: pilkAfter some testing, this works well enough with NVIDIA unlike the previous Waydroid workaround.

I wonder, though, if this could be applied to other games that have Android versions, but not Linux versions. After all, if a game's ported to Android, half the work is done for a Linux version already.

Minecraft's Bedrock Edition also has no native Linux version, and there is a project called mcpelauncher that runs the Android app as a native one.

Has anyone checked this for security issues? Who is the author?

Five mins after showing my 11 year old this article, i hear him screaming.. "I'm IN"
Closed source? No thanks.
Also I think they will brake it, Roblox seems to really hate Linux.

Sober? Well, that rules me out.

There are basically three things that have been keeping me from just switching to linux full time, none of them related to myself.
My kids NEED roblox, minecraft (bedrock), and the oculus steam streaming VR thing.
roblox being an option now checks one box, and minecraft (bedrock) is just fine with the mcpelauncher. I just need steam to make the steamvr link thingy that wirelessly connects on windows work on linux, and i'll never look back.
