Chess as a roguelike deckbuilder? Could be a fun one! Developer Rogue Brain Studios has announced that Usurper will launch on September 9th.

It looks like Chess, but it's not the Chess you know. A game where where your king is your strongest weapon. Play cards from your deck to drop units onto the board and checkmate your opponent. Draft new cards, upgrade your ruler, and choose powerful gambits to create game-breaking synergies. Build the ultimate deck and master 4 unique Factions to claim the throne.

Features:

  • Roguelike deckbuilding chess-inspired gameplay.
  • 4 unique Factions.
  • 40 dynamic pieces.
  • 78 gambits, upgrades, and promotions.
  • 15 challenging bosses.
  • 10 difficulty levels.

You can follow it on Steam. It has Native Linux support and the demo continues to be updated so give it a go! It will be $10 at release, with a launch discount planned. The developer also told me it will have a Steam Bundle with two other Chess-likes Pawnbarian and The Ouroboros King (and all three have Linux support).

If it's this one: https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/30724/Chesslike_Roguelike_Bundle/
Then note that it's not the "complete your bundle" style / no discount for already owning something.
