In news that might hopefully be good for Steam Deck and Desktop Linux players with Proton, both The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest are getting offline modes.

Ubisoft announced this yesterday (September 10th), as they're clearly taking notes on how they badly handled The Crew when shutting it off and all players losing access to it, which ended up creating the Stop Killing Games initiative.

At the end of the Ubisoft news post was this notice:

Finally, Ubisoft Ivory Tower committed to long-term access for both The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest, ensuring that both games will be playable for many years to come, including in an offline mode coming in the future. Players who still haven't picked up The Crew 2 can do so for just one dollar from September 10-24, and will be able to unlock four different vehicles with only one Crew Credit. From now until September 23, you can save up to 70% on The Crew Motorfest or 98% on The Crew 2.

Currently though, both games are broken on Steam Deck / Linux with Proton, due to the anti-cheat. So I'm hopefully at the very least the offline mode will actually work, since there would be no reason to have that part of each blocked.

I've reached out to Ubisoft to see if they plan to get either working.

So it was possible to make like an offline mode. Good for them.

Anyway the petition is still on. Prevention is better than cure

Nah, making promises is super easy. The hard part is still ahead.

I guess it was good timing because The Crew 2 is currently $1 without the Season Pass on Steam and once this offline mode is enabled, I might test it out on the Steam Deck to see if works. If this offline stuff works well, I hope they apply it to other games down the line because it would suck to have their crappy anti-cheat still lurking around after they stop supporting the game.

Finally, I wished companies like EA and Activision would add a offline mode to their games because their anti-cheat sucks for those of us that only care about the campaign modes on Battlefield and COD.

This is great news! I hope they take away the anti cheat for these games to have an easier time getting thee to run on Linux.

Can't wait to hear the guy who keeps saying this will make companies bankrupt and take their game away to sell them later. Where are you now "game developer"?
