Freehold Games and Kitfox Games have announced the thoroughly strange and unique science fantasy roguelike epic Caves of Qud is leaving Early Access on December 5. A day I've long been waiting for to really fully dive into the world, especially so with the refreshed tutorial and the finished up story.

A fresh Beta release is available right now that has:

  • Repolished the tutorial with new graphics, some new dialog, and several bugfixes.
  • Added a tutorial sequence to teach resting until healed.
  • We did a big refactor of the options menu, cleaning up option categories and text, gating advanced options behind a checkbox, and deleting some deprecated options.
  • We did a refactor of the control bindings menu, cleaning up binding categories and text and deleting some deprecated bids.
  • Stunning Force now deals damage in up to 3 increments based on proximity to the center of the blast, as it's supposed to.
  • Fixed several small bugs.

The price will be going up in a week too, so grabbing it right now would be a good idea. At the release they'll also be putting out a "Dromad Deluxe edition" that will include the game, an enhanced soundtrack and the Pets of Harvest Dawn DLC pack, with in-game companions for your character. The DLC includes pets that were originally exclusive to their Patreon supporters plus some new ones too.

It has Native Linux support and is Steam Deck Verified.

Congratulations to Freehold and another great piece of publishing/support work by Kitfox. I played Qud for the first time back in 2021 if I remember rightly and got several hours in. The game is endlessly intriguing and the stories it brings to the player fascinate. I only wish I had the time and energy for a game such as Qud or Dwarf Fortress anymore...

Ah, what a coincidence, their release date landed right on my birthday. An excellent gift from the developers!

Well, this is a good excuse to spend another 200 hours getting killed by baboons.

Live and drink.

Tried to get into this but wasn’t able to dig the visuals and keyboard shortcuts, but will give it another go.
