Firaxis Games and 2K have released the system requirements for Sid Meier's Civilization VII on Windows, but the Linux and macOS requirements will be coming later.
If you've been paying attention, Sid Meier's Civilization VII coming to Linux officially shouldn't be news since I've covered it now multiple times. But it's a nice reminder for people who missed that.
Writing on X (Twitter) they showed off the requirements:
What's this? Only 20GB? You mean big new games don't have to be 100s of GBs? I am shocked.
In a follow-up post Firaxis additionally said:
We're also releasing Civilization VII for MacOS and Linux / SteamOS. However, we don't have specs to share for those platforms at this time.
I did email them previously to try and find out who is doing the Linux version, but they did not reply. Usually it's Aspyr Media, but they're not listed anywhere this time around so it might be done directly by Firaxis.
The Windows version will have Denuvo Anti-tamper, which doesn't actually have Linux support, so it's likely again the Linux version will not have Denuvo. Additionally, there's no launcher this time around but the game does require a 2K Account for online interactions (but not for offline play).

I think I'll wait until they remove Denuvo, even if the Linux version doesn't have it. Plus, I want to wait to be sure I can play the offline mode without ever creating or using that 2K account. This is where I get torn between two places: 1) I want to support developers who make games for Linux (cool!) 2) I really don't want to support anti-consumer practices.
Let's hope it gets removed at some point.
Lets see this happen.
Denuvo isn't wine supported either, so they will have to make some choices.
I will count a wine compatible civVII as a Linux port.
Quoting: LoudTechieInteresting.Denuvo works just fine in Proton. Always has.

Oh, oops.
My mistake.
But Civ is a game that has a very diverse and casual audience, that play on their cheap laptops and even on their smartphones (yes Civ 6 was ported to android/iOS not just to tablets but eventually for phones). It isn't a game specifically for the core gamer audience that has a GPU for all their modern ARPGs and shooters.
I really wish the minimum specs were "Intel Iris Xe or equivalent", not for my sake but because it is what many potential players will have... and honestly I doubt it won't work on it (with bad performance but playable if you can tolerate it).
Quoting: eldakingHmm, a bit disappointed that they list a discrete GPU as requirement.Well, for security reasons I can understand them wanting you to steer clear of those indiscreet GPUs.
