The new Delta Force has launched with kernel level anti-cheat, which sadly doesn't support Linux platforms yet but it seems hope for it is not entirely lost. Not to be confused with the original Delta Force from 1998, this is a free to play online FPS from Team Jade and TiMi Studio Group.

Writing on the Steam forum, one of the developers clearly said:

Linux is currently not supported. And Steam Deck is also not supported at the moment, but we will start considering how to port it.

With Proton though, they don't actually need to port the game like they would for other platforms, the developers just need to ensure their anti-cheat system "Anti-Cheat Expert (ACE)" is enabled for it. Although it's not clear if that will be as easy as it is for BattlEye and Easy Anti-Cheat.

Trying it anyway on Desktop Linux through Proton 9.0-3, Proton Experimental and GE-Proton 9.20 they all resulted in the launcher login system giving repeating network errors when trying to login, eventually through repeat attempts I could get to the main Launch button - but then the launcher just quits back to the Steam Library.

Curiously, on Steam Deck with SteamOS 3.6, Proton 9.0-3 had the same issues but Proton Experimental did get into the game. Repeatedly testing Proton Experimental on Steam Deck and yes, it does go in-game. So back to Desktop and it still doesn't work there.

Regardless of it randomly working or not, given the anti-cheat system and the clear statement of it not being supported by the developer, it could fully stop working at any time or result in game bans. It's not worth it right now. Save your time downloads and hard drive space for something else.

You can keep an eye on our anti-cheat compatibility page to see what games work or not for Steam Deck and Desktop Linux. Please leave feedback for the list in my forum announcement post.

When I hear any different for Delta Force, I'll be sure to let you know in a future article.

@Liam
could we please have the "Latest Additions & Updates" on top of the whole list or just get a column of "Updated" in the main list to sort as well?

This is the F2P MP game that supposedly has a remaster of the original Black Hawk Down campaign inside, right? I wonder how are they going to monetize that or if it will be playable during the MP open beta. I have fond memories of the PS2 game.

Yes, that's correct and this is probably why they delisted the original Black Hawk Down earlier this year.

@Liam, Anti-Cheat Expert (ACE) has Steam Deck CPU ID detection, so the anti-cheat whitelists the LCD model Steam Deck but all other Linux devices are blocked.

It's not known if the OLED Steam Decks have been whitelisted yet.

I tested the oled version and it can play games without any problems
