Square Enix have announced that FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH will be getting a PC release on January 23, 2025. They've shown off a new trailer and given a whole bunch of details.

For the PC version it will of course include various graphics settings for you to customize. They said that "Depending on your rig, you’ll be able to play the game with frame rates of up to 120FPS and a range of visual enhancements, including refined lighting, improved environment detail, more detailed textures. You’ll also potentially be able to experience enhanced framerates and image quality with NVIDIA DLSS. VRR is also supported".

There's also of course Keyboard / Mouse support added in with controls customisation included. Check out the PC announcement trailer:

For Steam Deck players, the developers mentioned: "The team is working hard to optimize the game for Steam Deck. We’ll have more information about official Steam Deck verification in the future, so keep an eye on our social media accounts for confirmation."

Given that they're optimising for Steam Deck, it should be nicely playable on Desktop Linux too with Proton.

You can pre-order right now with a 30% discount until release.

I hope they will fix the bundle price, lol.

If you already own Remake, you should get a bigger discount...

Hopefully they'll stop selling the 2020 prequel at €80 euros now

They lowered the price on the first one, so that's your discount.

But I already have the first one.

Greenman gaming had this at 43% off, for like $54 CDN. So much for "I never pre-order". I bought a Deluxe key for myself, and a regular key for my buddy. Note that GMG keys don't ship yet, whereas buying via Steam will put the game in your library immediately.

I'm a little confused / didn't follow what was happening very well. Do I have it right that they are remastering the original Final Fantasy VII, but it's getting split into 3 parts, and this is the second of the three? Or is the remaster complete, and this is a new continuation of the original story?

I know the original VII was highly regarded as one of the best (never played much of the series except for X myself; too many games and too little time), but it seems like they are milking it quite a bit?

Same here. Early buyers get fleeced, always. I guess 'early' in the case of FF7R means all buyers not getting all of them when the third one is on a deep discount.

Unless you want that pre-order materia, that is. Major dick move to counterbalance that part 1 discount.

It re-tells (and expands etc.) the original. It won't be complete until the final, 3rd, game, but it's already much longer than the original FF7. If you fly through FF7 in 40 hours you'll probably be spending longer just in Part 1 alone, but even if some people argue it's bloat there are legitimate reasons for at least part of this as well (text boxes in THAT ye olde jrpg style vs proper voiced dialogue, character work you need with increases overall fidelity, and all that entails).
