MIGHTY 1990 is the next game from Chaosmonger Studio who have been pumping out releases over the last few years including ENCODYA, Speedollama, Three Minutes To Eight and Clunky Hero.
What is it? This retro-inspired adventure game, combines the charm of text-based adventures with point-and-click puzzle mechanics, RPG-inspired features, and a humour-filled narrative. No release date or trailer has been provided on it yet just some early screenshots and a now-live Steam page.
Features:
- Retro Gameplay Mechanics: The entire game can be played using only the keyboard—just like the first text-based adventures—ensuring fast, focused gameplay without the distractions of pixel hunting. However, players can also use the mouse to interact with the streamlined lower interface, which houses all the necessary commands.
- Skill-Based Challenges: Choose your class, develop skills, and influence outcomes by rolling dice. Whether using charisma to win over an NPC or solving puzzles creatively, every playthrough feels fresh and unique.
- Branching Endings: Your decisions, class, and skills dynamically shape the narrative, leading to a variety of satisfying—or hilariously tragic—conclusions.
- Monochromatic Blueish Palette: A visually stunning 16-color design inspired by MS-DOS games and the hardware limitations of the 386/486 era, blending retro aesthetics with a unique artistic twist.
- Humorous Nostalgia: Packed with quirky dialogue and nods to the golden age of gaming, MIGHTY 1990 will keep players laughing while they save the world.
Nicola Piovesan, CEO of Chaosmonger Studio, said: "MIGHTY 1990 bridges two iconic eras of gaming: the text-based adventures of the early PC gaming years and the point-and-click classics of the early '90s. It’s a gameplay hybrid that feels like the missing link in gaming history. All actions are mapped to a keyboard for seamless interaction, emulating the fast-paced flow of classic adventures, while still allowing players to explore at their own rhythm. Its 16-color monochromatic blueish palette and gameplay style evoke the era of 386 and 486 processors, delivering a truly authentic retro experience."
