The community-build of Proton, GE-Proton, was updated with a new version that updates various upstream components and adds plenty of game fixes for Linux desktop and Steam Deck. GE-Proton 9-22 arrived while GamingOnLinux was on a holiday break on December 28th.
The main components behind the scenes to make it do its thing updated in this release include:
- wine updated to latest bleeding edge.
- dxvk updated to latest git.
- vkd3d-proton updated to latest git.
- dxvk-nvapi updated to latest upstream proton.
- Disable nvapi for Assassin's Creed Syndicate.
- Disable nvapi for Simulakros and Simulakros Demo.
- Enable Xalia for games 0.4.5 is expected to fix.
- Update Xalia to 0.4.5.

With this release UMU-Protonfixes, their database of specific tweaks for games, was also updated with more games and some fixes added or removed (no longer needed) for:
- Identity V.
- Ghostrunner 2.
- Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
- Assassin's Creed: Syndicate.
- Ubisoft Connect.
- Kao the Kangeroo.
- Redout: Enhanced Edition.
- Bus Simulator 21.
- Hell Yeah!.
- Dungeon Siege 1 & 2 Multiplayer.
- BioShock (GOG).
- BioShock 2.
- From Dust.
- Final Fantasy VII.
- Final Fantasy IX.
- Crysis.

As a reminder: you should ideally stick with Valve's official Proton on Steam, unless you need specific fixes from GE-Proton. Since GE-Proton has less testing, less support, and it's easier to report bugs to Valve if you're using their Proton.

I don't know what they did with Ubisoft Connect, but it's definitely faster and more responsive. I've been out on XDefiant since the launch of season 2 broke everything for me. I tried to get back in to show a little support after it's implosion and it might actually be running better than it used to.
