Razer announced the Razer Handheld Dock Chroma for your Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Legion Go and more

Seems like making a dock for handheld gaming PCs is now some rite of passage for accessory and hardware vendors, as even Razer have jumped in now with the aptly named Razer Handheld Dock Chroma.

It even has quite a reasonable price, especially when compared with the official Steam Deck Dock from Valve, but there's plenty others about that are much cheaper. For $79.99 / €89.99 you'll get:

  • 6-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a gigabit ethernet port, multiple USB connections, and HDMI out, enabling a comprehensive gaming setup.
  • 100W Power Passthrough: Designed to charge devices quickly, keeping them ready for action at any moment.
  • Rugged Portable Design: Constructed from durable aluminum, the dock is foldable for easy transportation.
  • Razer Chroma RGB Lighting: Features customizable RGB lighting options for added flair.

The backing stand hinge is adjustable on the angle and can fold right down making it quite portable, and the RGB lighting is customizable via a dedicated hardware button so no need for extra software.

My main concern is the cooling situation, that high stand might get in the way of fan intakes, hopefully they've thought of that though. I remember some earlier docks I tried with the Steam Deck covered a lot of the intake. Other than that, looks quite nice!

It releases January 30th.

Sometimes I wonder if they are capable of designing anything without flashy LEDs

Well, if they keep doing RGB LEDs, people must keep buying them :)

@wytrabbit not when calling it 'chroma' :)
The original DeathAdder (after fixing the accidentally doubleclicking issue) was actually nice

I'm looking forward to not updating its firmware from my Steam Deck.

That massive back stand is a fatal design flaw, there's no way around it.

I'm beginning to have trust issues with these "all in one" docking stations...

I don't know if I was just unlucky, but both my JSAUX and Ivoler docking stations started to act weirdly. The Ivoler refuses to recognize my controller dongles (I have to reconnect them everytime I start my Steam Deck) and the automatic resolution detection stopped working on my JSAUX 7in1, after SteamOS update 3.6. Both of them are giving me occasional black screen on my external screen/TV.

Maybe I should try a factory reset on my Steam Deck, but it would force me to reinstall all my emulators, configs and saves... Yuk!

I ended up buying a cheap (20$CAN) UGreen Revodok 5 in 1 standalone dock with 2 USB2 connectors for my dongles (there is also a usb3 connector). At least, everything works fine and automatically... For now.
