DEAD LETTER DEPT. comes from the 2-person studio Belief Engine, a slow-burn typing horror game that will fill you with dread. As the developer announced previously it comes with full Linux / SteamOS support, even though "Linux fascinates and terrifies".

A quite unusual horror game where you take a temp job that tasks you with data-entry-like work. You'll be typing up the words and addresses on mail & letters that were not deliverable, either due to bad handwriting or other odd reasons (sounds exactly like one of my previous jobs). It gets weird as time goes on with various stories that begin to emerge. It won't be long before you get that sinking feeling.

"Working in a dingy warehouse, isolated from anyone and everyone, your only connection to the outside world are glimpses of letters that couldn't reach their destination. As time goes on, working conditions become questionable and dreamlike. Oddities and cracks begin to appear. Making money for rent is important, but at what cost."

Highlights:

  • USE YOUR KEYBOARD to type in various prompts, and attempt to decipher damaged images.
  • MULTIPLE ENDINGS & buried secrets to uncover.
  • NO TWO PLAYTHROUGHS are exactly the same (Estimated playtime: 120min per run).
  • A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF MAIL to voyeur through, and catch glimpses into other lives.
  • ATMOSPHERIC HORROR MOOD with rich sound designed to crawl under your skin.
