Please don't distract me I'm trying to dig a big hole over here

Can you truly call yourself a "gamer" if you haven't at least spent a good few hours doing nothing but digging a hole? I have answered the call and my hole has been dug.

I am of course talking about A Game About Digging A Hole that just today released on Steam from developer Cyberwave, who is also currently working on Solarpunk.

With your battery-powered shovel in-hand, you begin — very, very slowly. Tap tap tap, dig dig dig and away you go digging your little hole. Just uh, don't ignore those battery warnings like I did as a test, say goodbye to your ore and health. It's a game after all, the developer had to gamify basic digging right? There's no great big special hook here, you really are just digging a hole in the back garden of your newly purchased house. Although, there's apparently some buried treasure there and perhaps something you might wake up that's a little spooky.

I can already feel your judging eyes as you read this. Is this a time where I should be reconsidering some life choices? Sat here just clicking away digging a deep dark hole. I'm getting flashbacks to Leaf Blower Revolution.

What is it about games doing some of the most boring things that we end up spending our time with? It reminds of PowerWash Simulator as well, a game I've spent far too much time on. I could clean my own house and garden, but no — it's a video game so it's somehow entertaining! Here I get somewhat similar feeling with the repetition of digging, grabbing ores, selling ore, upgrading and repeat. Progress!

Progress is good! After a bit you get to upgrade your shovel so it makes bigger holes, and you can get a bigger battery to dig for longer, a bigger backpack for more ore. Yes! I am a digging maniac. Rock and stone! Then you get your jetpack, and suddenly it feels that little bit more fun, but drains your digging battery too — dammit. I need to dig more!

At least here there is an ultimate goal: finding out whatever the heck is at the bottom. Wait, is there a bottom?

Hold on, now my little radar is pinging something, I'm getting close to something, how exciting.

It was a bag of money! Excellent! Now I can upgrade my bag to collect more ore, sell it all to upgrade again and then dig some more. Clearly I am but a simple creature because this is has grabbed my full attention.

As far as I can tell it works perfectly on Linux with the latest stable Proton 9.0-4. See you in the hole, watch your step.
