Mojang have released the latest update for Minecraft, the Spring to Life drop. This is part of their sped-up release schedule to bring more updates to the game. They also recently announced more big upgrades coming like a visual overhaul.

Here's the highlights of what's new in this release:

  • Added cold and warm variants for the Pig, Cow and Chicken.
  • Sheep now spawn with wool color dependent on the biome in which they spawn.
  • Added new sound variants for Wolves.
  • Overhauled the visuals of each Spawn Egg to improve readability and accessibility.
  • Added fallen tree generation.
  • Added Firefly Bush block.
  • Added Leaf Litter block.
  • Added Wildflowers block.
  • Added Bush block.
  • Added Short Dry Grass and Tall Dry Grass blocks.
  • Added Cactus Flower block which can grow on Cactus blocks.
  • Added new falling leaf particles to all Leaves blocks that did not already have them.
  • Added new ambient block sounds in the Desert and Badlands biomes.
  • Added language support for Kyrgyz.

Really nice to see Minecraft continue to expand like this, to actually make the exploration side of it more interesting.

With all the new mobs added over the years, an overhaul of the spawn egg visuals was definitely due. Differentiating based purely on colors worked when there was, like, no more than 20 to keep track of. (Though probably not for colorblind people, come to think of it. )
