A reoccurring theme here with THE FINALS from Embark Studios is that it appears to break on Linux / Steam Deck each major upgrade, and it has happened again with the launch of Update 5.12.0.
It's not clear yet what's happening, but it could be anti-cheat related. Their update notes did mention a tweak to their anti-cheat, but it may also be unrelated since this situation has happened before multiple times and then fixed by Valve in a Proton update.
For me, when I go to launch it gets to the Easy Anti-Cheat loading screen and then quits with this error box:
There's already replied noting this on the Proton GitHub ticket. Hopefully Valve's Proton developers can take a look soon, and we may see a Proton Hotfix update like we've seen in the past.

Kinda depressing when the error message says "No message."

How do we keep doing this??
(Ya'll know i'm a little biased, but still...)
The Finals is one of the biggest multiplayer anticheat-abiding linux games right now... and they repeatedly fumble it for linux players on every major update.
everytime i turn on my pc there's a finals update and its fine. like 15-20 updates a month. but when the new content season drops the linux player's day 1 isnt until like day 4. so annoying.
