Proton Hotfix updated to fix Monster Hunter Wilds on Linux / Steam Deck

A recent update to Monster Hunter Wilds has been causing problems for players on Linux platforms including SteamOS / Steam Deck. Valve has now put out an update to Proton Hotfix to work around it.

For some specifics — the latest major update to Monster Hunter Wilds (Ver. 1.010.00.00) also updated the version of DirectStorage used, which then caused black screens and freezing issues when played via Proton.

An update landed in VKD3D-Proton, the layer that translates Direct3D 12 to Vulkan for Proton. Valve pulled it into the special Proton Hotfix version, and have now set it as the default for Monster Hunter Wilds. So the next time you reload Steam it will pick it up, unless you've forced a specific version of Proton (in that case uncheck the compatibility box).

Even though on Steam Deck the performance is quite poor, and to get it working somewhat okay you need to really mess with the visual quality, it's still proving to be quite popular. It was 25th most-played over the last month on Steam Deck but 45th over the last week.

Nice to hear there is an official solution. The unofficial fix was to download the previous version of the two .dll files directly from Microsoft and drop them into the Monster Hunter Wilds directory.
