Alright I think I finally found the root of my issue with the weird lighting behavior. Whew, that was a whole day down the drain on shaders, at least it's sorted. Now if I can just get the light attenuation to match up with opengl.

I am feeling pretty good that I got the lighting model correct. At least I can rest easy tonight!

Very cool - looks like you've got quite a few options there. Reminds me a bit of LucasArts' old X-Wing & Tie Fighter games! Well done!
