There's no way in the netherworld that mentioning it in an easily missed forum thread is anywhere near the required informed consent. It'll need to be in the form of a traditional "cookie banner" or something similar.
I'm curious, though, whether google analytics automatically respects the "do not track" browser setting. I suspect not, but it'd be a welcome surprise.
