The two standouts for me in 2025 are The Outer Worlds 2 and Civilization VII.

To be well prepared for my retirement in 20 years, I did buy some games in 2025... yet playing is a completely differen topic 😆

According to my Steam Replay 2025 report, my game of the year is again Fall Guys. Followed by Elite Dangerous, Beat Saber and Helldivers 2.

So no game from 2025, while Helldivers 2 is the most recent one.
I had a look at Metal Eden and Of Lies and Rain (VR), not much playtime yet, but as these are the ones from this year, I guess one of those would be my game of the year 2025.

Split-Fiction for me I think

It really reminds me of what gaming use to be, before live service "forever" games kicked in, and I was expecting it to be a stutter fest but they really know how to make the most out of UE5

Really hope Hazelight Studios get to continue making these sort of games, hopefully EA doesn't get rid of this team of talented developers but who knows these days lol

Metal Eden is a pretty great FPS. Worth a try as it is currently discounted. More of a hidden gem though.

. . . Have I actually played ANY games this year that were released this year? Even stuff I bought this year was all older, I think. Um . . . I played the demo of that card combat game where the "cards" are different sizes and you have to fit them into a tiled space and it's kind of moon themed and stuff. That was fairly good.

Still, the GOTYs these days are never as Goaty as good ol' Goat Simulator. Now there's a game that's very Goaty.

I haven't played completely through the various campaigns but I haven't noticed this inconsistency so far.

From what I can see from their wiki, they work primarily in 2D graphics. 3D models are only used for animation effects. The dev team seems very concerned with maintaining a consistent look.

Finally some good news – although I'm not sure if the reappearance of the Forum will bring back the old spirit.

I'm not in a festive spirit at all. Saturday's annoying stream of Christmas songs has left me completely oversaturated. I want everything Christmas related to be gone as soon as possible. This might be the first year that I skip watching Christmas Vacation in forever.

Digimon Story Time Stranger. Not only do I like the game for gameplay and story reasons, but I really appreciate it on a technical level. Saving is instant. The game feels very responsive. Frame rate is silky smooth. Absolutely lovely game.

Only new game I got was Civ7 and.... that was a mistake.

Mostly played Civ 5/6 and BERT (heh), Valheim (lotsa that)

Finally started No Mans Sky and enjoying it (even though no clue what I should be doing)

Not many new games look interesting enough to make me part with my money.
(I'm fussy)

My GOTY was definitely Metro Exodus. 9/10 game and was fun to play. It wasn't released this year though. Didn't buy any 2025 games personally. All money went into PC upgrades.
