Obduction Adventure Game Evaluating A Linux Port With Unreal Engine Supporting Linux
By km3k, 15 April 2014 at 5:33 pm UTC

I'm one of the backers of this project and they just sent out a survey that included a section for "Primary Computer OS", with options of "Windows", "Mac OSX", "Linux" and "No Preference". Of course I selected Linux. If you're a backer, make sure you fill out the survey and select Linux! I imagine they'll be looking at that survey while they evaluate adding Linux support.

Twitter box is now sorted for both themes.

Yeah I am also swaying towards removing the green.

Looks like Liam already fixed the PM list visibility I mentioned yesterday, so I'm back to dark for now. I think it's great to have both dark and light theme choices for different needs/preferences :D

Some minor feedback, for tuning the dark look: somebody else mentioned giving a more consistent look by swapping out the greens for more blues, and I think I agree with them. The light theme shows off the logo colors well, and this one does pretty well except for the green.

Bionic Attack, A Real Time Strategy Game Made On Linux & It Looks Brilliant

This looks awesome. Just this morning I was reading a blog by Cliffy B on pushing the TD genre forward and had an itch to play a slightly different type of TD. BA hits the nail on the spot. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

The developer with Ubuntu on his machine is Paul Reindell, CIG's lead engine programmer. For the Star Citizen community, this wasn't that big of a surprise - CIG had previously stated that "The Cloud Imperium team includes many Linux and Macintosh fans" on the old kickstarter page.
I can't follow the assumption that this tells us anything as to when we will see a Linux client but as Chris Roberts mentioned on the panel at PAX, all their game servers run on Linux already and it all comes down to the engine's rendering pipeline. Mr. Reindell joined the CIG team after previously working for CryTek.

Outcast Reboot HD Open-world Action-adventure Game, A Reboot Of A True Classic
By oldrocker99, 15 April 2014 at 2:18 pm UTC

As I recall, Outcast was (beyond its gameplay)notable for using OpenGL rather than DirectX. This should make porting a bit easier, it is to be hoped.

Steam Controller May Not Arrive Until Near The End Of The Year

The steam client is on Ubuntu and according to the last question http://steamcommunity.com/groups/steamuniverse/discussions/1/648814395741989999/ devs were told to build for Ubuntu (on the Steam Runtime), which apparently would work on any distro as long as it's got Steam Runtime installed (and the Steam client is officially supported on Ubuntu 12.04).

So it's perfectly normal to build and test on Ubuntu. I just take issue with the DE =P KDE user myself. Of course, I've said this in the RSI forum's Linux thread =) So go subscribe on that thread if you're a fellow citizen! xD

Went back to the light theme, there's something weird about the dark theme and it being not as good contrast-wise. Also, white text (link to people) in quotes (which are white background) fail.
You need to make the blacks/darks darker for better contrast. The background still seems to "glow". A good example of dark background themes with visible text is the Star Citizen/RSI website, so go surf that =)

QuoteNo surprise they are using Ubuntu since it is what Steam supports and is generally developers go-to Linux distribution.

I don't know why they were using Ubuntu.

But I don't think it is for what you said.

Remember that Valve took Debian as the base of Steam Os. Not Ubuntu.

i'm pretty sure i saw the A on my ubuntu when i still had it,maybe the app manager or the ppa-manager or something like that, it's defenitly something that comes with ubuntu preinstalled, no idea about the V-icon though

I have adjusted the dark themes nav-bar to be smaller. It now has the same height as the light theme.

The random
that was above the comments box/below pagination has been removed now too, uses half as much white-space now.

What The Hell Happened To The GamingOnLinux Design?

Going back and forth between the two themes, the dark theme doesn't work for eyes-resting purposes because there are still large, bright blocks of white: forms (and list dropdowns), the commenting textarea, the Twitter area, and quotes.

Quoting: AlzarathI like it, though I hate that whole 'excessive whitespace' thing. I'm sure there are people out there that do like that, but I don't. It reminds me of a mobile app. Maybe that's your intention, to make it easier for mobile users to browse the site. I'll probably crop it down with greasemonkey anyways.

The newline between 'quote' and 'like' is superfluous, pages are sprinkled with unnecessary
, and there is unnecessary whitespace around the pagination area and before the comment box. The site has that irritating bootstrap feel.

Could you not have a sticky navbar, or at least make it much less tall? I hate that it eats 8% of my usable screen.

Comment headers also now matches the navbar blue, so we don't have so many colours.
