3089 Futuristic Action RPG Updated, Better Graphics
By , 1 March 2014 at 7:31 pm UTC

Why I asked was because I thought the graphics were intentionally blocky, but then all of a sudden they do a total swap and upload brand new gfx. Sounds like a work-in-progress to me, rather than a finished product.

Also, forgive me for being ignorant, but what is the difference between 3079 and 3089? Are they essentially the same game? Do they differ just in graphics (now anyway), or is it a different story? From their store descriptions they really sound like the same game:

"3079 is a futuristic, open-world action first-person role playing game. All areas, buildings, items, quests and characters are randomly generated. You will find unique lands & challenges."

"3089 is a futuristic, procedurally generated, open-world action role-playing game. All terrain, enemies, weapons, items, quests & more are uniquely generated."

I'm pretty confused as to why there are two games instead of one.

It was a lot of fun last time I played. A bit of a learning curve, then you'll be hooked.

To put this game into perspective, I played 9 hours before I gave it a rest (and for various reasons, haven't been back). I played Portal 2 on Windows a couple of years back for 10 hours!

So, yeah, despite the basic graphics, it's got a nice retro shooter feel, tons of loot, a variety of missions and a sporadic, but not-terrible plot. Worth a buy.

Valve Games On AMD Foss Drivers
By HadBabits, 1 March 2014 at 6:28 pm UTC

I recently bought a new computer with an Nvidia card, and man I couldn't be happier. Most games on medium to high settings run at least at 60 frames, and so many of the weird crashes or glitches with my old card aren't present.

Mind you, the hardware in each is very different. My new one has an i7 cpu with 4 phys cores (8 total) running at 3.4 GHZ, 12 gigs of RAM, and a 645 GTX (which I think is mid range). Compared to my 6620 AMD card (no idea where that is in the spectrum) with 6 gigs of RAM and some kind of quad core processor that ran at 1.6 GHZ.

So I can't say the comparison is fair, but man am I enjoying it ^^

Tried it multiple times on the latest Lubuntu 64bit, but it won't start. The splash screen stays on permanently. Using 'top' I can see it running in the background though... .

Quoting: steamshouldn't this game be flagged as early access or something? or is it fully playable, just ugly?

am not sure its really ugly, I actually like simple graphics, is more like a design style, since they are inspired in roguelikes. Also They're moving a little away from the first version which used minecraft graphics:

Aaaand, another one. I wrote up a lengthy comment about it over at Softpedia's news, because thanks to the change given for the Linux Other entry, you can calculate the correct amount for December too.

1.07% was the sum of the visible entries plus 0.50% from Other makes 1.57%, that makes for a 0.15% decrease in January to 1.42%.

When you open system monitor (or whatever it's called in your distro), you can see it loading stuff in memory and keeping 1-2 cpu cores busy. Here it actually starts when the game has allocated around 1.5GB of memory.

That's how I keep an eye on it to make sure it's not just hanging :P

Interstellar Marines FPS Still Plans To Release On Linux This Year

@Chris

Why Linux Mint? It's an derivative of a derivative made by hipsters whos only contribution to the thing is smug self-importance. It's also taken a lot of very questionable fund-raising for very little in return.

Quoting: EdwardMy comparison between mesa 10.2 (oibaf ppa- kubuntu x64) and latest catalyst with tf2 and amd 7950.
Catalyst:
Vsync cause input lag
AA cause lag
During the game startup from the video to menu the loading take ages.
Some game have trouble with some missing .so file (but i used the steam installer from the site not that one from ubuntu repo. I still need to check if the repo solve the error)

All problem that I don't have with the mesa driver. Off course the frame rate is better with the catalyst. But if the driver can stay on 60 fps who care.

Exactly, I can't tell you how many times catalyst has sodded up my install but its good to have a no hassle driver. The frames aren't great for me but its good enough that I can live with a little less graphics settings if it means the driver just works.
