I have a feeling the backlash to the PSN accounts is a big factor to this. I suspect getting people into their ecosystem was more important to them than the games themselves.

I don't disagree, but realistically it won't differ much from the user setting their date of birth when entering the website (like on Steam right now). It just won't have any real value for age verification. If they don't realise it now, they will soon - and inevitably come up with some more restrictions.

Microsoft's Rog Xbox Ally can play Steam games, that also means PS PC ports. I know Sony don't like that idea. Their games on a MS console....nope! 😁

Why would they want servers ran through a compatibility layer? This method has always been unsupported among games, and it makes absolutely no sense for EA to hire someone to do this.

Given enough time, every single PS game will be playable on PC trough emulation. Resistance is futile. PC assimilates everything.

Taking this decision in the middle of the generation is clearly not a good idea.
It's too late for me to buy a PS5 now, especially with the price of the hardware going up.

Before I buy a locked-down/dumbed-down console, hell will freeze over at least five times. PC port, or no money from me. Easy as that.

Hilariously, Capcom today reported that 50% of its sales are now from PC (I will refrain from posting the external link, just google it). It's safe to assume that the number is similar for Sony's PC ports. Not sure why Sony thinks that half of its total customer-base can be bullied into buying a console.

Haven't played this one, but going of seeing a bit of the previous one, it's more like the "The Room" series of games. Which are actually quite good. However, if I read between the lines on the reviews and dev responses, they kind of rushed the second half of the game and it's not really good. So it was in need of an update.

I can see that this would make sense if they're trying to keep their brand somewhat more exclusive and avoid some of the mistakes that Microsoft has made.

What doesn't make sense is that they didn't really manage to keep up their unique selling point of great single player games in the PS5 era anyway. And I can't really see them going back to a PS3/PS4 cadence of great, exclusive single player games. Just doesn't seem to be in their business plan anymore. So who knows how many classics we are really going to lose if this pans out.

If the same would have happened during the PS4 era it would have been quite a bummer. But these days we get so many great games of all sizes and shapes on PC, not really sure Sony really matters in that space in the grand scheme of things.

Bought tons of PS titles over the years for the Deck. They’re going to lose some money for sure. And like someone said above I won’t be buying a console, as it seems like consoles are slowly dying. Xbox doing the opposite of them, and it seems like they have the better plan. This seems for sure knee jerk reaction to Xbox and their possible PC alignment.

Apparently Canonical is proposing changes that would force ALL Linux users to verify their age during setup, too... I did post a link to a video discussing this last night; but it needed to be approved by Liam and from what I can see, it doesn't look like he's approved it.

Why would they mention proton if it is going to run on the servers? They have their own anti-cheat that would run on servers which do not need kernel level access.

Chart a path for EA Javelin Anticheat to support additional OS and hardware in the future, such as Linux and Proton.

It works fine for me on Proton. If you force the use of the Linux version, it tries to download something then says the executable is missing. That is now before the next update.

They port games after one or two years delay and complain that sales are low, lol.
And their games, after all, are not so outstanding or even so good.
But I think the main reason is not relatively low sales. Over a million copies sold are more than enough to profit from porting games.
I think the main reason why they want to leave PC is they want to sell more consoles to drag people into their ecosystem, and mainly aim for 30% cut to keep for themselves.
They think average steam users willbuy a whole new console, while steam users often don't even bother checking alternative PC game stores.

But we know how it will go. We'll see sony few years later, quietly returning to Steam.

I'd guess it cuts into their PSN subscriptions—you might not always be buying games, but you'll always pay to play online thru their consoles.

I have a PS5, but this is not a good move.
After 2-3 years (on ps5) why not make more money just by re-release it for PC?
Easy money and ppl are happy. They wont hack your console, and after emulate your games on PC.
