A look at Planet Nomads now it's in closed alpha and available on Linux

I was expecting it but I wanted to try anyway, the game doesn't work with an old Radeon HD 6870 with the open source drivers.

I was actually surprised it launched and I can browse the menu and launch a world. The only problem is that not everything is displayed, like, the ground ;)

As I said, it's not a surprise (Alien Isolation doesn't work either) and I'm planning on buying an RX 480 sooner than later. Just waiting for kernel 4.7 to get into Fedora 24 ;)

Quoting: CorbenFrom what I've seen the goal is not to move across planets or even star systems, it's more about to survive on your planet and crafting your own shelter, vehicles etc.
In Liam's article he says that:
QuoteBuilding a spaceship capable of interplanetary travel is the first end goal
I'm not fluent in English, but doesn't that say that the first goal is to get out of the planet, but then you'll be able to travel across planets as well? I personally really like the idea of interplanetary travels, it still makes me dream ;)

@Keyrock: I started to play with friends (two of whom have more than 3000h) and although it's extremely difficult to follow them when I play with them, it's also extremely teaching! You're right about the skill ceiling, it's ludicrously high and (maybe it's my masochism who speaks) I tend to like it very much in the end :D

I watched the semi-final today, it was simply A-MA-ZING! That last game! WOW!!

Latest Steam Hardware Survey shows Linux has grown, by a tiny amount (updated)

Quoting: tmtvlWhat about people who installed plain Ubuntu and afterwards installed the superior Plasma DE themselves?
I thought of that, but I wonder how many people installed Ubuntu and then switched to another DE. It would have been the first version of Ubuntu with Unity, I wouldn't argue, but it's been a couple of years that Unity is coming by default with Ubuntu, so the people know that now and they know that if they want another DE, they'd better get an alternative spin (i.e. Ubuntu-GNOME, Xubuntu, Kubuntu, etc...)

BTW, it would be nice if more people were to set their desktop environment.

There are 349 "vanilla" Ubuntu, but KDE is first in the DE's list. Considering the distributions stats, we should have Unity on top, then a fight between KDE and GNOME.

Quoting: liamdaweI actually had the survey this time, so it's not a myth!
Quoting: KeyrockIn a related story, I got the survey for the first time in about a year yesterday.
Quoting: melkemindI got the survey this time too. I was pretty shocked.
I think we've got our +0.02% :D

Epic Games founder thinks Microsoft will essentially break Steam in later versions of Windows 10

Anyone against Linux would have said the same kind of "in five years, they'll control the whole universe!" would have been accused of FUD'ing.

We've got to be fairplay and not accept this kind of arguments because it pleases us.

The AMD RX 480 seems to have power issues you may want to be aware of

Still waiting for the drivers to find their way to the Fedora's repositories before I buy the card ;)
