This is the final part in the interview with Keith Poole about porting Desura!

Q) Will I be able to activate my existing Linux games onto their service? (as in cd keys i think they mean, other services do allow you to do this it seems)
A) I think this might have been one asked/answered in the blog comments, but to recap; we will do what we can as long as the publishers and/or game developers give us the green light.
Q) Will the Linux version always be up to date with the Windows version?
A) This one is sometimes a problem, but we haven't created a new Linux branch or fork, we're modifying the existing code-base to support Linux. This in theory means that both Windows and Linux releases should be the same revision (although build and version number will differ slightly). There are two notes with this though: A) Desura may have some minor bugs appear over the next few weeks as I modify the code to support Linux, while we are also doing the occasional release build. Hopefully our testing process will pick that up though. and B) Some Desura features just won't be available on Linux any time soon, such as aforementioned mod support.
Q) Any favourite indie game of the moment?
A) Oh this is a hard one! There is a few games that I'm trying to find time to try, such as the recently released SPAZ (http://www.desura.com/games/space-pirates-and-zombies-spaz), Evolution RTS (http://www.desura.com/games/evolution-rts), Dark Horizon (http://www.desura.com/games/dark-horizon), and plenty of others. I'd have to say though that one of my all-time favourites would be Lugaru (http://www.wolfire.com/lugaru), and I'm eagerly awaiting OverGrowth (http://www.wolfire.com/overgrowth). These guys are great developers, making some kick-ass games (not to mention utilising some very tech concepts!) and being linux friendly.
Q) Any favourite open source game of the moment?
A) In this case I think I also have to say same as above, as Lugaru became open source not too long ago, resulting in some interesting ports (AmigaOS for one) and great mods.
Q) Does Desura plan to implement friends lists and chat rooms at all?
As for your final question, let's just say there's a trac ticket for it ;)
Thanks again Keith!

Desura for Linux sounds very exciting. I'm grateful Keith has given so much time to answering questions.

I just noticed something: There doesn't seem to be any Mac version of Desura.
I don't have any Mac, so I don't really care about it, but am I seeing this right: Desura coming to GNU/Linux BEFORE Mac?!
Or is it just being developped in a cross-platform way so that it will work on both at the same time? (That would be slightly disappointing. :p)

This is so interesting! Accidentally stumbled upon Desura, and now read about its work on gettin Linux supported. Yes, that would be great! Would love to finally see a steam-alternative that supports Linux.

Should be good once they add in more community options like chat, friends list etc, that really is what makes Steam so good.
