By -
Desura the ever awesome game distribution service is in around 24 hours going to send out the first 50 beta invites.

As it turns out, i was in this luck as when downloading i was able to login!

I am very very hopeful that it works out for them as they are a service that Linux needs!

What are you thoughts?

Remember i interviewed Keith from Desura a little while ago (link for who miss in-text links

Its exiting that they finally got it working but I do worry a bit that Gameolith.com might have to pay the price for it. Is the linux market big enough to sustain both ?

ooh and Phoronix will hype Desura to no end while being pretty negative about Gameolith.com when it was released.

Time will tell.

We've got plenty more games coming, some never before on Linux, so much to look forward to.

Looks like Larabel is a little late to the party, guess he managed to clear his head enough of beer to read his inbox:

And you should be happy Liam, no mention of Steam for Linux this time.
Liam Dawe Sep 21, 2011
He didn't mention Steam for once, that is a shock....although a lot of other people are now jumping on a "steam should take note" bandwagon...i disagree with them, we should support Desura not hope for another service.

we can hope for both. they are little different.
desura is mostly indie games and addons/mods for games.
while steam has all different stuff.

i really like the desura thingy but i still hope that steam will come to linux some day.
the more choices the better it is imo. like linux itself: freedom of choice.
i would use them both.
Liam Dawe Sep 22, 2011
Yeah they all have their place, but for now I'm not holding any hope on Steam, all my hopes go to Desura and Gameolith.

I'm in as well now. :)
Redeemed all my humble bundle desura keys, except HIB1, which didn't have any unfortunately.
Most HIB games seem to work, except a few like "Machinarium" and "Revenge of the titans" which crash Desura.
I also tried Urban terror, which worked without any issues.

So overall, very satisfied and very happy. :)
