QuoteQ: What about Android or Linux?
A: Those are possible too! It all depends on how much money we can raise.

So far they have raised $1.6million+ dollars in pledges;
QuotePublishers tell us that adventure games are dead. Our fans tell us they aren’t.
Who is right? Well, I think it’s about time we found out!

Looks like the Publishers where wrong huh?

In case you don't know who Tim Schafer and Ron Gilbert are, they're both ex-LucasArts employees who were involved in classic adventure games like Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island, Full Throttle and Grim Fandango, and have gone on to do fairly interesting things in their post-LA carrers (Tim founded Double Fine and Ron has been involved with stuff like the Penny Arcade Adventures, Deathspank and Telltale Games' Monkey Island series).

It's interesting and anything they make will be worth playing.

But, comments like that about Linux support make me sceptical. It sounds too much like the usual PR-babble were you never give a straight answer, just keep stringing them along until the last minute...

This item was added to the FAQ after the project met its target (whereas the same equivalent MacOS/iOS question was in there from the start). It's interesting to note that there appear to be hundreds of comments (I haven't read them all) on the Kickstarter project's comments page by people asking for Linux support.

Given that they've exceeded their target by 300%, and they've promised to take some level of direction from backers, I'm cautiously optimistic.

And if they use SCUMMVM, there shouldn't be any problem at all.
It seems unlikely, but I wouldn't mind. :)

It's very unlikely. The SCUMMVM devs outline some reasons why it probably shouldn't be used for new projects here.

donated on day 1, it is a bit sad though that other projects strugle to reach even 1/10 of what they got......

I think one of the main reasons this project did so well is that Notch tweeted about it.

I don't think you're giving Tim and Ron enough credit. My guess is (and it's all guesswork) that at least 30,000 of the backers are just adventure game fans who're keen to see something new.

Will the game be available on Desura since us Linux users can not use Steam?

We're still working out what additional platforms we will be able to reach. We should have news shortly though!

...let's wait and see what will happen.

Guess I was wrong to be so pessimistic about the chances for a confirmed Linux release. I would offer to eat my hat, but I don't actually own one...

In other news, Brian Fargo is apparently going to Kickstart development for a Wasteland sequel, wonder if he can be convinced to do a Linux version as well?
