Linux overtakes Mac on Humble Indie Bundle 6!

By -
So for the 9th time out of 16 total bundles we Linux folk have contributed more money in total than Mac users! This is taking into account the fact that there is 9000+ more buyers on Mac than Linux, this is due to the fact that Linux average purchases are around $3 higher than Mac.

Further giving credit to the fact that yes their is a market for Linux games and yes we will pay good money for them! While this bundle is by no means over it still has 7+ days left, it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I hope more gaming companies/groups/whatever use stats like cheese's Humble Visualisations to see just how profitable Linux could be for them rather than dismiss it altogether.

Ps. There is another new Torchlight build out for Linux with more fixes. yippe! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I don't actually mind it so much personally. I'm a little bit worried that they give gaming on Linux and Linux in general a bad name though.

Quoting: "whizse, post: 5555, member: 126"Nope.

This port was very, very rushed. They could have used another month of beating on it in testing :-/

Sure, but it's working pretty well here on my netbook despite said bug. I hope they fix all the remaining bugs soon.

Yeah, the last build seems to have fixed most of the crashes.

Annnnnnnd we're behind again :)

The thing I worry most about is whether this bundle will set a precedent for what is cool for Linux/Mac titles in future bundles. Fingers crossed that it doesn't happen that way.

That's the problem they think because Linux is free Linux users want everything for free, I'm not a gamer but I do support Linux, The distribution I use is well worth the price I would have had to pay for windows 7 so I donated $200 to them, and for their next release it will be the same donation, If people can spend their spare time making a distribution that's a pleasure to use then I can spend my money supporting them

I am a bit late to the party, but brilliant news indeed! It's a pity that GOG still won't support Linux despite all the money there is to bed made...

GOG have an upcoming event where they will announce the support of additional "OSes" (plural). It's unclear whether Linux will be one of those (there's mention of MacOS and "consoles" in the news post about the event), so it wouldn't be a good idea to get your hopes up, but it's definitely worth keeping an eye to.

The numbers are still fluctuating (I'll give a summary in a couple of days when things are settled), but at this point, it looks like MacOS will finish up between $17k and $18k ahead of Linux in this bundle.

Can't help but notice that Vessel is still missing on Mac and Linux despite them promising that they would have the ports out in a few days after launch...

As I said, this whole thing was a bit rushed. Now, I know I have personally thought that the Humble Bundle guys have been trying to push too much out too quickly ever since the Frozen Synapse one, but this one is quite emblematic of the problem, only coming a couple of months after Humble Indie Bundle 5.

Which may explain why it only got $2 Million - not a figure to be scoffed at but still much lower than the previous big Indie bundle got.

Still looking forward to giving Rochard and Torchlight a proper go at some point though.

Indeed, which is why theses issues should have been worked out before the Bundle started. Now, we are getting a native port, and I am grateful that they are taking the time to do it properly. But this was still handled badly by the Bundle organizers IMO.
