M.O.R.E a game we first told you about a little while ago has been fully funded on kickstarter and is now just over $1,000 away from giving a Linux port from day one!

This is thanks to them re-organising their stretch goals so Linux day 1 was moved from 80k to 65k which is great news as it still has 6 days to go, it's an easy bet on this one folks!

Some early video for M.O.R.E:

Yes, a proper 4X sim! There's not enough of those on Linux. Actually, I'm not sure there are any.

Not sure if you will consider those "proper 4X sims", but:

I'm aware of those, but neither is 4x actually. They're just sims.

[This is getting a bit off-topic, but why do you consider them to not be 4X games?
I only tried Widelands and FreeCiv (without ever understanding how to play it) shortly, but I have played Settlers 2 and Anno 1602 quite a bit, on which Widelands and Unknown Horizons are based to my knowledge. Both of them involved eXploring, eXpanding, eXploiting and eXterminating (more or less). And FreeCiv and FreeCol are mentioned on the wikipedia 4X page.
That being said, I never played Master of Orion...]

I don't know really. I've never really seen Settlers as an example of a 4X game because of its simplicity when lack of management. And Unknown Horizons, I must say the last time I looked at it it was in a terrible state, and I haven't really bothered to look at it again. But I see that it has changed severely now.

When it comes to civilization, I admit, I just dismissed it because I haven't thought of it that way, although I fully realize civ is a 4X game.

Still, none of those games are in any way similar to MoO. I guess I'd just like another one of those, and my mind has simply for whatever reason equalled 4X to Orion.
