Some non-Steam Linux related news for you today folks (I know shocker right!).

RuneSoft the game porter for Linux, Mac and others are bringing their games to Desura, be sure to keep an eye on their group here. Previously their games where disc only so this seems to be a good milestone for them!

Desurium
Desurium is hitting a milestone this week folks, it is being polished up left-right and centre for all you lovely gamers to enjoy. It looks like their 0.8 Initial Linux Release is being finished up (if it isn't already), it includes rather a lot of fixes since the initial Desura Linux release.

I can attest to the fact that it is a lot nicer to use than the current very outdated build for Linux. It's more stable, faster and slightly better looking due to a few niggles sorted out.

They could still use help in the way of patches, have a look at their growing todo list here and see if you can help with anything, so that for those of you not wanting to use Steam's closed client you have a good alternative! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

They have an impressive catalogue, but they should definitely not overcharge for their last-century games. Introduce a price model like gog.com. I would love to buy "Feeble Files" or any of the "Ankh" titles for $5.

Ankh rocks !!!!!, good news indeed :)

In a word: awesome! :D

I just hope they treat both Linux and Mac in fairly equal terms, since they have been primarily a Mac based porting house in the past.

Great! But the pricing is a bit steep on those titles. I mean I can't justify 20€ on such old games, I'd much rather just drop some cash on Crusader Kings II.
Hamish Oct 29, 2012
To be fair, we do not know what the prices will be for a digital download.

What I would really love is to see Hyperion Entertainment put some of their old games up, but I doubt that will ever happen.

They have taken at least two people on to fix up Linux ports ;), one of them does some of the LIFLG stuff.

Well, they may come to... maybe. How well is the Torchlight port running these days anyway?

Just wondering for when I bother to get to my HIB copy. No rush on that though as I am still playing through Psyhconauts (which does still really need another bug fix release) and will probably be giving Rochard a go first as I want to see how well Unity is working out.

[about Torchlight port] We still can't see the faces of 2 of the characters, but otherwise is just fine

Mmh, that's odd, I'm having the "headless char" problem with all three, as soon as they put a helmet on.
Also, mod support is still a mess.

So, they have got one of their games up already.

The good news: they put up a Linux title first.

The bad news: the price is still a little steep. But better than the $40 dollars that was listed for it at Tux Games when it was still in stock.
Liam Dawe Nov 1, 2012
It's not a bad price at all I think, looking forward to seeing more games.

Compared to some of the other prices on Desura it is not that competitive. About five dollars more than what would be comparable.

I am not trying to bitch too much, and I am happy to see it is there, especially since there is no DRM as far as I am aware. Just making an observation.

EDIT: Case in point, Majesty is about 10$ and it is about comparable to Robin Hood I would say.
Liam Dawe Nov 1, 2012
Well yeah compared to others it may seem expensive but something that bugged me is that everyone expects games to be a lower when you used to buy stuff like it for much more still.
Arnaud Nov 8, 2012
Apparently, Ankh 3 will be ported on Desura early next year. Ankh was never ported before, this is great news !

Also I hope other older titles will follow. RuneSoft has an impressive catalogue, but most of their titles are Mac OS only

Welcome back to the fold RuneSoft!
