Steam Beta expands for another 5000!

By -

Steam developer Frank announced via the Steam for Linux group that the limited Steam Beta has been expanded by another 5,000 people.

"We're making good progress finding and fixing issues that our users have reported so we're expanding the beta by 5000 before the long holiday (US) weekend kicks in. New limited beta testers will have an email notification in their inbox.

Have a great weekend everyone!"

Well that's now around ~6000 down, only another ~54,000 people left (they stated they had over 60,000 people request the beta!).

So GOL Gamers did you get in?

Also to note we have a Steam Group here so if you visit us/comment on the website it may be easier to hook up with people you know from here!

I am the owner of GamingOnLinux. After discovering Linux back in the days of Mandrake in 2003, I constantly checked on the progress of Linux until Ubuntu appeared on the scene and it helped me to really love it. You can reach me easily by emailing GamingOnLinux directly.

Indeed, emails have been sent out and accounts have been updated. By "weekend" they meant the start of the long weekend because of thanksgiving here in the states.

I don't see why they still focus on Ubuntu as this distribution has its own online store.

Small companies are able to provide multi-platform, distribution agnostic softwares whithout much hassle. Valve is a big company with lot of resources, targeting one distribution only does not make sense. I am sure there is somekind of contract or agreement behind.

Anyway, hopeully there is Desura, working on every major distribution.

It may have it's own online store yes but it has no community system (friends, game invites, game overlay etc) it's far inferior to Steam.
