Steam big picture from login!

By -
This is something worth looking into, omgubuntu reported on a github page here by "thor27" where you can in Ubuntu install a Steam Big Picture session so when you login all you have is steam big picture.

Would be interesting to see if anyone helps out doing this for other distro's so it's not just for Ubuntu like it is currently.

Could be quite useful for boxes connected TV's? I have yet to try it but i can see the appeal of it since it supports mouse/keyboard and controller input not to mention being easier to use from your sofa! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Hello my Linux brethren.

I was very frustrated to get Steam on my gentoo. i did it. And i decided to help some other lost souls. Check out my page, it explains how to get your Steam under non Ubuntu. Send me email how it can be made better or if you can optimize some steps there.

It's no howto, but can help some people.

so far i still can get it to run on opensuse with no real issue, but as i said in another post i dont feel to positive about it being so very hardcoded against ubuntu, does not give me the security i would like to have to buy games from them, at the moment any update from valve can force a ubuntu only dependency i cant fullfill, and i wont change my os for steam.

as for your page dimko, i simply extracted the .deb with ark, ran the shell script and that was it, found it easy enough as long as you got the correct 32 bit dependencies. i do see with your vm you solve the ubuntu need .

I guess I fail to see why creating a couple of crappy debian packages for a couple of lines of shell script just to launch the steam executable with a special switch is something to cheer about, or why it needs a github page.

Then again, the omgbuntu page has loads of comments, so I guess it's just me be old and outdated.

For all the people like me too lazy to make the session themselves :p
