Humble Indie Bundle 7!

By -
Well here it is and it's a good one too! Humble Indie Bundle 7 is here!

The only real problem I have with Humble is that still they are rushing things and still putting out games that just aren't polished enough.

Games:
Binding of Isaac + DLC - A really really strange and kind of sickly twisted...shooter? Also it's a flash game.

Legend of Grimrock - An awesome dungeon crawler much like the old Dungeon Master game with beautiful graphics! Worth it for this game alone!

Shank 2 - A sequal to a previously included game, the 2D brawler is back as ex-mob hit man Shank returns to action in Shank 2. With those closest to him under attack, Shank is once again forced to go on the offensive.

Although this isn't technically even indie, it has a big name publisher - EA!

Closure - A dark and mysterious platformer where you need to stay in the light! Very interesting gameplay!

Dungeon Defenders + DLC - Dungeon Defenders is an original hybrid of two hot genres: Tower Defense and cooperative online Action-RPG!

Snapshot - An odd platformer where you take pictures which removes things like boxes to put elsewhere.

Grimrock is mostly flawless - I've played it since yesterday and I'm loving it, especially since I originally stopped playing it because I didn't want to bother with Wine. Didn't really encounter any problems yet.

Snapshot's fun, and the port works great.

Can't say about DD since it hanged on me so many times that I just gave up. Probably will take a while before it's playable (unless a different version is in the bundle, because what was in testing could hardly be called playable).

Closure's very confusing and reminds me of LIMBO a bit. But it's nice.

Isaac is terrible as ever because of flash, don't expect to play it on a moderate machine.

Shank 2 is great if you liked the first one, the port is quite good too, but they're not adhering to XDG specs, argh!

Grimrock is just awesome. Been wanting to play it since i first heard about it.

Yeah, and the damn secrets. Secrets everywhere! There's even one right where you start!

Btw., where you (or anyone) able to play DD? I've enjoyed it for some time (but again, stopped playing because of Wine), and I'd like to know whether this works now. Also, does multiplayer work while we wait for it's Steam release?

DD was very crashy for me.

grimrock alone is worth it, played it via wine when it came out, now with the editor its even better.......... ooh the dungeon master days :)

Guys, I just realized the implications of DD on Linux. DD is an Unreal Engine 3 game. Finally, it's on Linux! This opens it up to so many more games!

Exactly Dungeon Defenders is a first Unreal Engine 3 game on Linux (Killing Floor and Red Orchestra are UE 2.5 based).

This opens a possibility for many new games getting a native Linux version. I can already see Sanctum or Q.U.B.E. heading our way.

I have emailed the porter Icculus to confirm if it means others will come, not sure if I will get a reply or not.

I do hope this means that so many years later, Epic finally greenlights the damn Linux port. Just so they actually go through.

Still this is looking nice: Unity, Source and now UE3. Things are indeed looking up,

Linux will just get more and more popular now and faster than ever before too :)

Yeah, honestly, with the recent sudden jump in support, it's looking great. Paradox is looking at porting games from their catalogue, icculus has his hands full, flibit has his hands full Rudd works fulltime for Humble, Valve is gearing up for more Source games releases, Many more ports, THQ considering, although now that they filed for bankruptcy this doesn't make much of a difference. Maybe once they sell off enough franchises we'll see whether they still will do something.

I just hope CD Projekt RED looks at porting to Linux, and that Bethesda will consider it as well.

I would appreciate the original Shank being offered as a bonus title since I missed out on HIB4.

EDIT: Also, who wants to place bets on whether Torchlight 2 is going to appear in a future bundle?

I'm willing to bet that the following games will get into future bundles: TL2, FTL, Bit.Trip, next game from Amanita, Trine2 in a year or so. Possibly Little Inferno later down the road.

Games I'd like to see get in: Awesomenauts. I love the game but it's so damn unstable under wine for me that I quite often can't finish a match even. Or they can just do a Linux port, whichever works for them.

had a hard time to get Dungeon Defenders to even start, got a fatal IO server error which got solved by doing a
ln -s /bin/true /usr/bin/gnome-screensaver-command

but it still is far from perfect, fullscreen no go and a crash here and there is quiet common, so been looking and found this:

running as root/sudo a game........ sorry but.............

Very nasty. I haven't tried it yet, but I know I won't run buggy closed software as root.

I finally tried most games in this bundle, at least the ones I'm more interested in, and it's starting looking good now.

Legend of Grimrock worked great from start, good port and nice game. Shank2 didn't work with the gamepad but it's now fixed in the last update, it's now better than Shank. Closure and Snapshot work smoothly too.

Dungeon Defenders is the problem in this bundle, the introduction and loading is very slow, then the fullscreen problems and crashes in the game. This port needs more work. On the positive side, it started without using any workarounds in the FAQ.

EDIT: Forgot to mention 3D mouse free look doesn't work well in Legend of Grimrock, looking direction jumps randomly and it's almost frozen. Not important but I'd like to see it work.

Hehehe, I'm not a purist. And I think it would be a useful feature instead of having to walk in all directions to find the hidden mechanisms.
