Torque 3D for Linux

By -
Hey all!

I am a fellow Linux user in the field of game development. I recently came across Indiegogo of Garage games for a port of their game engine Torque 3D to Ubuntu.

Torque 3D is open source under the MIT license you can find it on Github it is windows only at the moment however they do have a functioning Linux server for it.

They also announced that they will be open sourcing Torque 2D and iToruqe as one package also under the MIT license in the near future! I mention this as Torque 2d has the some of the same core systems as Torque 3D.

I hope that this is helpful to some!

But they write in the discussion that it will be 32bit only. That's quite disenchanting.
QuoteIt’s not that we are going to go out of our way to ignore other distros, but we will only guarantee Ubuntu 32bit for this campaign.

As a counterpoint - the devs have taken an engine that worked on Linux and somehow managed to break that. There are by far many better and more cross-platform engines. So, keep that in mind

One thing that set Torque3D apart from the arguably superior engines now supporting Linux is:
-Its open source
-They plan to port the entire tool chain, not just the engine. So games can also be developed on Linux (unlike Unity for example)

Also there are some really cool games being developed with Torque 3D:
