Asylum a new horror game

By Jonah Libster -
Senscape, the people who brought Shivers to the PC world are doing a new expanded world of psychological horror : Asylum. This could be the greatest horror genre game available on Linux since Amnesia: The Dark Descent. But it needs our help. A Kickstarter campaign is going on now:

There is TONS of footage here and at their main site at http://www.senscape.net.

This one looks like a worthwhile project to get funded, and a major feather for cap of Linux gaming fans. The reward list is almost as impressive as the game. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

The Demo was promising. Looks like this is going to be a very good one.

This was actually mentioned on GoL before in August 2011, but things went up in the air with it. Glad to see they are committing to a DRM free release as for awhile it looked like it was going to be Steam only. The goal is a little high though, but they probably will still hit it.

As far as KS videos go, I loved this one!  These games really scare me, so I might support, but I don't know if I will play XD

Biggest news here (and under-reported) is that the team is open-sourcing the engine it is based on, called "Dagon".  It looks really cool!

@ s_d
How that IS news!! Right On!!

Not Shivers, Scratches. :)

@RustyBroomhandle
Yes you are correct! And the funny thing is, I own them both.

@Hamish

Actually, considering the average budget for games this size I think its relatively modest and given the short history of this team (Scratches...so far) its realistic. They are at the 52% mark now. Remember that Death, Inc (Also being made for Linux) is asking for 300k POUNDS! From the looks of the campaign progress there, odds of success seem very low. At best I think they'll only get 50% of that. I think Asylum game is worth investing in because these guys have what appears to high level development and unlike most Kickstarter game projects, has a chance of being released on time (4 years of work, nearly done it seems), and their goal is actually within reach. (Being from Argentina probably allows them to get better developers at lower rates. :D ). Anyway, my thoughts there.

The thing is this would not be the first time that a Kickstarter were to fail for having too high an asking price to be suitable for the platform. I am thinking of Interstellar Marines here, which got a lot of money and a lot of contributors but threw it all away by having too high an asking price. Certain games take a lot of money to develop yes, but there is only so much one can reasonable expect to get from Kickstarter. That is my fear with this, but they still could hit it if they get the word out enough.

@hamish True, although I've seen projects from as little as 5k to as high as 1 million both succeed and fail. Given the quality of production, I'm guessing its what they need. The artwork and voice acting right now I'm guessing is their biggest expense right now (I could be wrong). At the moment their current rate of sales conversions puts its close if unchanged; almost on a knife's edge. Many others are doing a big push right now. Hopefully it will do.. Would like to see a more comfortable margin though. There are still around 1000 $15 discounted game downloads available out of 2000 but many got larger reward sets. Would be cool to see the discount downloads sell out.

Well, they're halfway there with less than half the time to go.  I agree, the project creator needs to do continuous promotion to meet the goal, but from what I've seen so far, he is doing so.

Probably the adventure gaming community is his best bet.  I must say, I'd love to see a spate of compelling first-person adventure games implemented on the Dagon engine, as I'm an inveterate adventure game fan :)

They are now up to $71K. with 2 weeks to go. This looks like it could happen. I'm particularly keen on seeing the engine get some new features.
jlibster 15 Feb 2013
$76K and less than 2 weeks go to. Hopefully we'll make it...
jlibster 23 Feb 2013
It looks like the goal will be reached. Its already at 102% with 5 days to go. Stretch goals on possibly in sight. Thanks all!! We will have another premium game native Linux and open source!!

So cheers all round then? Woot!
