Star Citizen is a massive space game currently under development by Roberts Space Industries and it needs your help on some voting, get your voices heard Linux users!
You need to go to their survey here: http://www.robertsspaceindustries.com/squadron-42-wallpapers-and-survey-update/ and vote against having it as Directx11 only!
If they go with Directx11 only there will be no porting options to Linux for the game!
The game as of yet hasn't been confirmed to come to Linux as it's using CryEngine (Think crysis, far cry etc), they have been in talks with the CryEngine devs about OpenGL so let's get our voices heard some more shall we?

Done! I really wish to see Far Cry one day on Linux.

Hm. Big surprise, the poll is coming up to around 20% "no" and 80% "yes" (currently 17/83%), which coincidentally is approximately the split on the stretch goal poll, where we requested Linux & Mac support.
In fact, it appears to have degraded some from the 20-21% during the campaign, as Mac & Linux fans' attention has wandered elsewhere. Why would anyone expect that to change? First, it's a poll of those who (for the most part) have already pledged for Windows, and the lion's share of them wouldn't notice whether it's DX11 or OGL3.
My prediction is that Roberts will point to these numbers to show that there "wasn't enough community interest" if they're ever asked to justify why he chose the path he did (which will obviously not be portability).

And yes, I certainly did vote! + OGL3, + 64-bit only, + 8GB RAM, - new computer (in case anyone cares).

I really dont understand why game companies dont take advantage of engines like Unigine. That engine is amazing, and it's powerful. You can also make your game for "Linux, Mac, PS3, Android, and Windows!". I almost wonder if game devs are using the "porting to other platforms" as just a way to get more cash with their "Stretch Goals". I mean they choose an engine that is currently only supported on windows, and then ask people if they would like to see a Linux and Mac version. When all they had to do was use an engine that was way better then Crytek 3 and supported all OS's. Every dev knows that people from every platform are going to want a version of their game. I think the world needs to start supplying devs with more multiplatform engines, and sweep out some of these single platform engines.

Unigine isn't specifically geared towards RTS games. The two biggest issues I hear from game developers who are considering its note very widely used compared to CE, UE, etc. (which is to be expected, it's a comparatively young engine), and its toolsets not being as developed (again, something that will grow as more people use it).
I can understand why developers running Kickstarter campaigns would shy away from it - there already so many other uncertainties that exploring a relatively unknown engine becomes difficult to justify.
What Unigine needs is for the in-development cross-platform titles using it to be released. It seems like The Cradle is probably the closest, but it's slipped past it's end of 2012 release date.
Back on topic, it's interesting to note that according to the earlier survey, Star Citizen had more Linux supporters than Mac OS supporters.
