At the Gates - Lead a barbarian kingdom to glory during the final days of the Roman Empire. An empire builder by Jon Shafer, designer of Civ. The developers have confirmed it's coming to Linux!

QuoteAfter a couple of weeks of work, Jonathan and I have successfully run At the Gates on both Mac and Linux! Our initial testing also shows that making an iOS version should be possible, so we're committing to release AtG on that platform as well.

There are still a few minor kinks to work out in the Mac and Linux versions, but we expect that they'll be available at the same time as on Windows. As a thank you for everyone's generous support so far we'll be providing a free version of each to everyone who contributes at the base $25 tier or above!

Great news, we need more really good games like this, at first I thought it was basically the same as freeciv but when you read up on it, it's far more than that!

The fact that season change, crops can dry up, floods can happen etc adds for way more strategy to this!

Here's a gameplay trailer:

Well, there is some novelty in this, but it is still entering an already well crowded field here.

Pledged, but I'm curious about the Linux port (and Mac, for that matter).  Earlier on, when the game was first posted, it clearly stated that it was C# game, and that portability was very uncertain (you know the usual verbiage... "Blah blah blah, blah... but if the funding goes exceptionally, smashingly, gobsmackingly fantastic, we'll consider other platforms.  No promises, of course!".

It's some distance from "Windows game on C#" to "Win/Lin/Mac!  Everybody is welcome... iOS is coming too!".  I wonder how this was accomplished... MonoGame?  Jonathan porting his C# ElfTools framework natively somehow?  Hopefully it's not an undisclosed winelib port for Linux and wineskin wrap for Mac :(

Some clarity from the dev would be welcome.

Ask and ye shall receive!

We are indeed using MonoGame. No funny business, the game runs natively. We are having a bit of trouble with screen resolution in Ubuntu though (haven't tried Mint), so if anyone is or knows a MonoGame expert we'd appreciate a bit of help with this issue.

Hey Jon,
The upstream MonoGame branch has pretty bad Linux/Mac support at the moment, you might have better luck with my branch:

http://github.com/flibitijibibo/MonoGame

Right now it's a few commits behind upstream, but this is the branch that will be shipping with my MonoGame ports.

If you have any questions, poke me on Twitter @flibitijibibo.

Awesome! Thanks... uh... fliblkjohwthhhhhbpht. :) I'll pass that along to Jonathan and we'll see if that corrects the issue. Do you know if there are any improvements coming to Linux/Mac support in the future? We're new the Mono community (and Linux for that matter), so we don't really know what the status of everything is.

What game(s) are you releasing with the help of your branch?
