Linux Stretch Goal for Dreamfall:Chapters

By -
At last it's official! There were some rumors and even a mention of Linux/MacOS in the FAQ but no specifics until now. Achieving 90% of their Kickstarter goal of $850k in a mere 7 days (50% in the first 2 days), today Red Thread Games, the developers of the 3rd installment of the adventure game series that rekindled the love of adventure games, announced that they will guarantee a same day release for Linux (and MacOS) for an additional $50k (for a total of $900k). Given the campaign has 22 days to go, it is very likely this stretch goal will be reached.  The images alone are breathtaking:

The world and interface design are among the most interactive and intuitive I've seen in years. For an early demo see the YouTube Video below:

They actually show the game being made on Macs. They used Unity4 so they were well prepared for Linux fans.

That's a bit shit of them. They're using Unity, it's 5 minutes of work to get it working on Linux. Well, at least it isn't as ridiculous as some other ks camps and only 50k.

Well i think you're overreacting a bit. At 50K+ and with over 20 days to go the linux version is all but confirmed. It's not like some other kickstarters that had linux at 200% of the goal or something similar

- this is a must have, the previous 2 games where amazing and among the best adventures made.
- they gone reach it easly for sure, bit sad linux is a stretch goal but 50k to Q&A a huge game like this on 2 platforms its not over doing it I think

Hmm..the game requires a 16GB usb stick to send it to people physically in an economic manner. 4 DVD's is a lot of material to test. It would be nice if they didn't make it a stretch goal, but it was a modest one. Hoping to get confirmation of a Linux version for Unwritten: That which happened later on. they are still figuring out how much money they really have and won't know for 2 weeks, but I think its likely.

Linux support is all but guaranteed here.  I estimated that it would be reached by Monday evening (US time), but seeing as the funding goal was only reached a few hours ago, I have to revise that.  Unless we in the Linux community really all push super hard, I think we'll see Linux & Mac guaranteed sometime very early Tuesday.

Hooray, estimate exceeded! Linux support is official as of tonight, i.e. Sunday Feb 17th
