Wadjet Eye Games Running A Closed Linux Beta

By -
Wadjet Eye Games, creators of retro-styled point-n-click adventure games, are seeking Linux beta testers.

They are the creators of games such as Gemini Rue and Resonance which I'm sure plenty of you have heard of!

This game is outstanding. I first discovered it when we played it for Game Club last year and was blown away. We also had a great dev chat with creator Joshua Nuernberger (log can be found here for anybody who's interested).

The game's plot is superbly paced, and the (moderately forgiving) action elements make for a much more tense experience than many point and click adventure games. The art design is charming and the voice acting isn't too bad (a little rough in places, but still enjoyable).

A fantastic homage to classic point and click adventure games whilst still giving something new. I give it an x out of n for large values of x.

Nice, that game looks awesome.

Yeah, this is actually a really important beta.  If it's successful, it would greatly ease the way for publishing their entire catalog, including The Shivah, Resonance, Primordia, the Blackwell series, and several others.  I hope they have a strong response for testers!

New tweet about the Linux beta...

Dave Gilbert ‏@WadjetEyeGames:
Wow. Linux beta testers are the most detailed report-givers ever.

Go Linux!  :D

I just emailed and got a response within 15 minutes.  I was told they have enough testers for this build of the game and that I would be put on the list for the next beta build.  It will be great to have their games native on Linux.

They replyed within minutes, really impressed.

"Thank you so much for your interest! We've had a much bigger response than we anticipated from the Linux community (seriously, you guys are awesome), so we're all set for people to test this particular build."

I've been interested in their games for a while now, but no native version. Looking forward to it! :D

Great!  I can think of no better way to show them that we're a market worth serving than to swamp them with super high-quality beta testers.  Thanks friends, for coming through there!

Linux is going to need all sorts to games, and multiple distribution methods, to continue to succeed the way it is.  I love what these guys at Wadjet Eye are doing, and how they respect their customers (DRM-free, cross-platform, and utilizing an open-source game engine).  They even invest engineering time and money back into the engine itself!
