Speaking on their Steam Page they have announced a new Beta Update which gives a Linux version!

QuoteThere is a beta for an update available now - simply right-click the game title, select Properties, and then go to the Betas tab to opt-in. Working on things like compatibility issues, windowed mode, leaderboards, etc. There will still be performance issues but if you encounter a major bug please post below!

Also, if you are a Linux user and own the game you can opt-in via the Linux Steam client as well.

Appreciate the support and thanks again for playing Hotline Miami!

Just note I have personally been a tester and you may get a black screen until you resize the window (it's a known bug for a few versions now). So be patient on that one they seem to be having a little trouble fixing it. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Quoting: scaineAh - update. You have to opt-out of the beta, then type-in 'HLM' to the code, which re-introduces the "private beta" branch. Opt-back in and you're good. 180Mb download, then play.

Yep, just got that :)

Unfortunately, I have sound, but no video -- just a black screen :(

As expected, I have to start all over again... :/

Or is someone able to continue from an existing Windows save game?

We're aware of this issue and are looking into it. Untill we fixed it, you can try resizing the window.

@entropy we'll try to look into that. There's support for it on windows; possible it just need to be copied to the right place on linux. (No guarantees)

Launch in windowed mode and resize the window.

As you might have noticed, there's a new build on steam. Not only should the blackscreen been fixed and improved performance, we enabled support to use your old windows save game on linux.
1. Delete your current linux save game (SaveData.sav, either in XDG_DATA_HOME/HotlineMiami or ~/.local/share/HotlineMiami),
2. Copy saves.dat to the forum where Hotline Miami is installed(in steam, properties, browse local files)
3. Start Hotline Miami
