More games will be heading our way!

By -
So as usual behind the scenes I have been doing digging contacting various developers to find out if they have Linux versions planned and here are a few that got back to me! Games including Edge of Space, Battlepaths and more, all of these are currently on Desura.

Edge Of Space

Edge of Space Cinematic Teaser - Desura
Survive, Fight, Explore, Terraform, Dig, and Build. In Edge Of Space you change the world to serve your needs in this unique mix of survival, defense, exploration, base building, Reactive world, dynamic sandbox.
They stated:
QuoteEventually, it's not on task for first release but it is on the table for a little bit after.

Battlepaths

Battlepaths Trailer - Desura
Battlepaths is a loot-centric and addictive 2D-RPG featuring neat monster hacking, an excellent loot system, and great variety in character development. Learn special skills, use powerful potions, and hunt down the Chaos Overlord.
They stated:
QuoteYes! We are going to port the game to Mono Game and then it's coming go Linux, too.

The Tank Game

January 1v1 gameplay - Desura
The Tank Game is a top down arena shooter featuring a diverse set of items (abilities and weapons) each with their own unique uses and properties.
They stated:
QuoteYup, I want to switch from XNA to MonoGame at some point in which case I will definitely try and support a Linux version! I'm afraid I couldn't really give much of a time frame though as I'm only working on the game in free time so development can be quite stop and start.

Siege of Turtle Enclave
Siege of Turtle Enclave is a turn-based strategy game with real-time battles! Through the course of the game the player must collect resources, build and upgrade mighty structures, train a wide variety of troops, cast spells, conquer territory and wage war against a mighty foe in this innovative 4X strategy game!

Siege of Turtle Enclave Official Trailer - Desura
They said:
QuoteVery probably, I'm currently running an older version of Unity because I started the project before native Linux exporting was supported and haven't wanted to upgrade for fear of breaking the project and causing delays in the development. After the Release of version 1.0 I'll upgrade Unity and then try to get a stable Linux build out for testing. If the tests are successful I'll add Linux as a supported OS.

If you like the look of any be sure to let the developers know you would love a Linux version and tell them we sent you ;)

Now back to the shadows I go to speak to more developers! If you want us to touch base with anyone, email us! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Great to see Desura get more love. As a non-steam user this is essential.

Good job! ;)

Also don't forget the games that are coming to Desura for sure in a few days: Dominions: Priests, Prophets & Pretenders, Dominions II: The Ascension Wars and Perfection. (the last one will be available in just a few hours).

Plus there's this one, which is not coming to Desura but it's coming for Linux nonetheless: Rogue Legacy. It looks GREEEEEAAAAAAAT!!! Please somebody write an article about it!!!

Looking at some of these and other games, Desura seems to be being used as a staging area to help get some attention and hype for a game before getting it submitted to Steam Greenlight, which if a little demeaning to the service does at least give Desura a little bit of an edge and does give non-Steam gamers the opportunity to try some of these games. I was a little worried that with Greenlight developers might just bypass more inclusive services such as Desura altogether, so all in all I am happy with this result.

Well yeah Desura is small enough to probably want as many developers on board as possible so I bet the entry is a lot easier than Steam so of course they will flock to it if they can.

Although some developers won't want to spread their game across several websites as it may lose them income as they would need to hit the threshold for a pay-out which with sites like Desura they might not hit since it's not as popular as Steam. Then again it depends how popular the game is.
Hamish May 17, 2013
My point was that Desura seems to be mostly being leveraged to get a game out in the wild to help improve it's chances of being Greenlighted. It is mostly being used as an initial marketing push, almost like a campaign event if one wishes to use a political analogy. My main concern with this is what would happen if some developers who do release their games on Desura and do get accepted on Steam then later forget about their Desura versions. At the moment this is just that, a concern, but it is something I could see happening.

Also completely forgot they have the "Upcoming" section muntdefems which is why I didn't list them, such a poor layout for their home page. I seriously think this page should be their home page. They keep saying they are re-doing it but....when?

Looking at the Edge of Space page again, I realized it was one of the games that was being advertised by a Windows only banner back when they were popping up on my Linux Desura client, until Desura finally got their act together and fixed their banners. So the fact that it is now supposed to be coming to Linux somewhat amuses me.
