Drifter space trading game coming to Linux!

By -
Drifter is an open-world sandbox space trading game with a procedurally-generated galaxy 100,000 light years across made up of tens of thousands of star systems to explore and features an original soundtrack by composer Danny Baranowsky.

Take on the role of a spaceship captain attempting to eke out a living among the stars by trading goods between star systems, hunting pirates for bounties, mining asteroids for valuable ore, or even becoming a pirate yourself. The choice is yours!

It is now up for pre-order for $10 if you like the look of it.

You may/may not remember it from Kickstarter where the developer stated they wanted to do a Linux port even if no stretch goal was hit, looks like they are delivering on that!

The developer recently showed off this video on twitter showing it on Ubuntu as well.

Then website confirms it will be on Linux as well:
QuoteDrifter will be available for PC, Mac, and iOS in 2013 (when it's ready, but hopefully by the end of the summer) and for Linux shortly after.

They also have a Greenlight up so vote for them if you like the look of this one! The greenlight announcement gives hope of a Linux version soon to quote
QuoteI'm hoping to add a Linux build soon as well

Loving this one, I love space games in general and this just looks and sounds fantastic. Great to see us getting more games like this. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

This is what I like, a simple but effective Space game. Non-cluttered UI and Sand-boxed. I'm totally there, but life is short and I wish we could have this before the end of Summer heh. I tried the X3 Series, just too complex for me; my brother loves it though.

Yeah, actually the final UI design is going to be even cooler;  one of the stretch goals was to bring on a pro UI designer.  He's the guy that designed the logo and the promotional poster (which are all pretty cool, very clean & minimalist without looking lazy).

I'm pretty excited to play this!
