The Castle Doctrine a massively-multiplayer game of burglary and home defence by Jason Rohrer now has a new version out!

We talked to you about TCD before back in April as it's an interesting take on the MMO game genre. There is no talking to others, just build up your house and burgle someone else's!

What's interesting is it gives you the full source code which you need to compile to get it to work on Linux, it's an interesting way to do it and certainly one that will please a few! I've tried it myself and it's certainly an interesting game!

Managed to find a reasonable video of it:

You can currently get it for $8 as it's 50% off during Alpha.

Version 7
--Fixed crash in edit-screen suicide when family members have no paths to exit
(thanks Seth Archambault).
--Fixed visual glitch in blueprints (some pixels in bottom row not being
shadowed properly).
--Fixed bug in movement acceleration, which is meant only for panning
(in blueprints and when paused during playback), affecting robber movement.
--Improved legibility of blueprints by adding inner shading to walls, pits,
and trapdoors.
--Improved legibility of doors on blueprints by adding knobs.
--Panning around a blueprint during robbery now counts as activity, preventing
the robbery checkout from becoming stale (thanks Seth Archambault).
--Fixed so that wife runs to a killed child even if she hasn't see the robber
yet.
--Mouse-over in blueprints now shows tool tips for damaged objects
(thanks Zed).
--Uninteresting houses in the list can now be ignored (Ignore House button) until they change (thanks Zed).

What you get:
QuoteImmediately after your payment is processed, you will receive an email with an access link. You will then be able to download all of the following DRM-free distributions:
  • Windows build
  • MacOS build (10.5 and later Intel)
  • Full source code bundle (which can also be compiled on GNU/Linux)

The price also includes downloads of all future updates and a lifetime account on the main game server that I am running.

The source bundle includes the server software, allowing you to set up and run your own server (a web server with PHP/MySQL is required).

You can take a look at the system requirements.

Jesus, I want to like games that release as Alpha and improve, but sometimes I think they shoot themselves in the foot. The video you linked to was like proof that I'll just be frustrated by how alpha this game is. Maybe later in the cycle, I'll have another look.
