Another major new version of Minecraft has just hit our virtual shelves featuring new mobs like Horses and it also has a brand new launcher which finally allows you to select a version to play!
Changes in 1.6:
+ Added Horses
+ Added Donkeys, Mules
+ Added Horse Armor
+ Added Leads
+ Added Carpets
+ Added Hardened Clay, Stained Clay
+ Added Block of Coal
+ Added Name Tags (item)
+ Added Hay Bales
* Texture packs are now “resource packs" that also can hold sound etc
* Food meter is now drained when healed by full food meter
* You can’t destroy blocks with a sword in creative mode
- Removed Herobrine
You need their brand new launcher to be able to play so go grab that now!
The launcher is probably the best thing about this update, no longer will you have a problem if you accidentally update to a new version when your favourite servers are waiting for bukkit to update, you can select anytime what version you want to play on, FINALLY!
Our server will update to 1.6.1+ as soon as a bukkit build is available (don't want to lose any plugins!). Also be sure to get whitelist to play on our server as we will be soon launching a build-to-win competition!
Don't know what Minecraft is still? Watch the official trailer:
Personally I hope they add a lot more to it as I feel like it's still lacking rather a lot, in my eyes is still doesn't have enough monsters! For all the money Mojang has, I think they could do a lot more with it.

Quoting: GeorgeStill requires java? I'llstill pass...You honestly think they would rewrite the whole game?

Quoting: GeorgeStill requires java? I'llstill pass...It does, yes. But if you just like putting blocks together and playing around, you can try Minetest; it's a decent clone. I play Minecraft, but not on servers or with Monsters, I always play in Sandbox mode. I never really liked Multiplayer games due to too many bad experiences. But yeah, try Minetest if you don't like Java.

Quoting: avarisclariThe issue is that its making pointless security holes to my system. I don't like Mono, Flash and AIR either, so I don't care if one is better or worse than the other, all of them are bad. (although I cant get rid of flash because of YT and such)Quoting: GeorgeStill requires java? I'llstill pass...And what exactly is the issue with Java? It's better than Mono, Flash, AIR

Use Open JRE (jre7-openjdk on Arch) instead of Oracle's proprietary blob, and don't use it in your browser.
Coming from a sysadmin perspective, Kernel exploits (like the root escalation issue with Red Hat / CentOS recently) are more of a problem.
