Planetary Annihilation sure has come a long long way since the initial Alpha releases and it's shaping up to be something seriously awesome!

They recently released the first public version of the Planet Editor too (you fiddle a few pre set sliders and have it generate a planet and yes you can play on them!), here's a video I made myself to show you the Planet Editor running on Linux! Hopefully the next video I make I can show off playing on a saved planet!

I think the Lava planets are easily my favourite looking.

Also a bit of bad news below taken from the Alpha forum to keep you informed.

Linux and Mac will not be getting 32bit versions.
Linux and Mac will not be getting 32-bit versions, at least not any time soon. Mac support for 10.6 would be needed for 32-bit, and we've already established that for the tiny number of people that are still on 10.6 and 32-bit, it's just hard to justify spending weeks of time on it when we have so many things to be working on it. As for Linux, it's basically the same. It may not be weeks to make 32-bit work on Linux, but how many 32-bit Linux users are out there? Even if it only takes a week to get 32-bit working on Linux, that's time not being spent on features and making sure the existing platforms continue to improve.

If there ends up being a huge demand, we can of course revisit this, but.. if you're running a 64-bit CPU, consider upgrading your kernel. It's been 5 years since 64-bit started to become the default shipping CPU type on almost every machine out there.

Price Drop
Lastly they also dropped the price to get into the Alpha, it's now $70 as opposed to $90 as they feel like they can handle some more testers now. It will still be $40 on release so if you can't afford it/won't pay to be in the Alpha then just wait, it will be worth it.

The game will go down to $40 at the full release (already well worth it), so don't let the current price put you off. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Sorry, they are flying high :) It should be more reasonable price.

They can set the price however they like and I support their reasons.

It will be $40 on release anyway which is still far cheaper than most AAA games coming out so I don't see the problem. When it hits Beta the price will go down by another $10 as well.

Oh, good. Now they're ripping europeans slightly less.

Honestly, the bullshit oh, but VAT VAT reason is getting tired. Before it was 130$ vs. 90$ and now it's 86$ vs. 70$.

Well that's an improvement still the price should be fine on release.

Prices are unreasonable. Even if game is sound.
I don't think there are many gamers out there with 32 bit distros anyway.
Though i wil buy it probably. I shall see how my finance will be going. Life is changing rapidly and i don't like that.

Do you think $40 at retail is unreasonable?
x414e54 Jul 28, 2013
How is that bad news :)?

64bit OSs and CPUs have been out for the last 10 years, and the majority of games are still 32bit only. A company actually making 64bit games is really, really good news. If you are still on a 32bit OS now, seriously, stop holding technology back.

The price is high because the kick-starters had to pay that for Alpha access, so it would be unfair on them if they made it too low too soon. Also it is Alpha Access you don't have to get it. 40 dollars seems perfectly reasonably for this at retail.

Bad news for 32bit users, that is all that was meant, nothing more.

Of course it's good in the long run, we need more 64bit only games.

$40 at retail is perfectly acceptable (about half the price of standard retails games in the UK so perfectly reasonable), people just seem to be butthurt over the Alpha price, no one is forced to buy it, if people where patient they would shut-up and move on until they could afford it and either buy it at the retail price or just leave it alone.

Lol what a ripoff. Sucks to be the person who bought it for $90, then price slashed the next day. This is the reason why I wait for it to go $5

Things like this happen anywhere, prices change learn to deal with it. You will be waiting a long, long time if ever it gets as low as $5.
