The developers of the Half-Life 2 Mod "Estranged" have noted they have upgraded it to the latest SDK to bring Linux support (and Mac).

Speaking on their Desura blog they stated:

QuoteSource SDK 2013
Estranged was running on the Source SDK 2007, which was beginning to cause us some unexpected issues in some areas. I have spent the last week branching and merging the codebase into the 2013 SDK, and am pleased to report that Estranged 2013 is now in a stable condition.

While this brings us benefits like Linux and Mac support, it also brings with it subtle performance and feature improvements - such as the Steam HTTP API (to replace cURL for our statistics collector) and the vgui::HTML WebKit control, which replaces Awesomium (we'll talk more about how we use that for in-game screens and other assets in future posts).

They even showed it off running on Ubuntu!

About the Mod
Estranged is a work in progress mod that tells the story of a lone fisherman whose ship is stranded on a mysterious island during a violent storm. Explore the rich environments and meet the curious inhabitants of the island as you find a way back to the mainland. Face both danger and intrigue in this perilous adventure, where you will soon find that not everything is as normal as it seems...

Great news!

So a week to get it up to a stable point without SDK2013. Didn't the Black Mesa guy's claim that was pretty complex? Is Black Mesa just a that much more complex mod? or does this increase the likelihood that we will see Black Mesa as well?

Prepare to be red with envy: I have actually not played Half Life 2, or Episode 1 & 2! Goodness ahead for me.

I am currently upgrading my PC, and wonder if I will sense the same amazement as when I played the original game when it came out.

This is great. If other mods follows we have plenty of additional stuff to play.

But where is Minerva? It's a really outstanding mod IMHO and is situated in the HL universe.
This guy even works for Valve and AFAIK has updated/enhanced the mod recently for Steam inclusion.

I wonder when it's coming out... its Desura page still says 'Windows'.

It should be towards the end of this month. We'll release it along with our next Alpha for Windows and Mac.

The trailer looks great.
Has anyone tested it?
