The Cheapskate's Corner 14 (Aug 16th-22nd)

By -
After publishing the latest Funding Crowd on Thursday we needed some time to compose the new Cheapskate's Corner column. So here it comes now on Sunday, at the nick of time for warning you about new deals about to finish. To keep it short and concise we'll be only focusing on the active deals, either ongoing or new:

Is there anybody left who hasn't bought Charlie's Games' Mega Bundle Pack yet? Yes there is? Then you're in luck as this deal is still available and with no sign of ever ending: pay what you want -from $1 upwards- and get Irukandji, Bullet Candy 2013 Edition, and Bullet Candy Perfect. If you're willing to spare $5 or more you'll also get a DRM-free copy and a Steam key for Scoregasm. Remember that additional Steam and/or Desura keys must be directly requested to Charlie via email.

One Indiebundle.org's bundle expired during last week but a new one took its place, so you've still got two of them to choose from:

· The Rugged Rogues Bundle includes Tales of Maj'Eyal and Voyage to Farland at the $5 level, and Dungeon Prospector at the bonus $7 level. All three games come with Desura keys.

· The SciFi Bundle is featuring science-fiction-themed games like the soon-to-be-available-for-Linux Constant C (Desura key), available for $5. If you opt to go for the $7 Bundle+, you'll also get a Desura key for the Exodus Wars: Fractured Empire alpha. Plus, a Linux port of Beyond Beyaan was confirmed not long ago, so more bang for your bucks!

The Indie Gala Summertide Bundle will be ending in just a few hours after it was prolonged last week. Last chance to obtain the Wine-wrapped Oniken for as little as $1 and Space Pirates and Zombies if beating the $3.15 threshold:

Furthermore, as we announced in previous columns two more titles from the $1 tier, Miner Warfare and Doom & Destiny, will be coming to Linux according to its developer Heart Bit Interactive, although not in the immediate future.

UPDATE: This bundle has already expired.

image

Bundle Stars' Superfly Indie will be around for a little longer but not very much, so hurry up to check it in case you were interested in The Journey Down: Chapter One and the soon-to-come Air Conflicts: Pacific Carriers:

image image

Both games come as Steam keys only and can be yours for about $5.10/4.60€, which represents about a 85% discount over the listed Steam prices.

Having been expelled from the main deals for the second time in a row, Linux gamers must take refuge at the Humble Weekly Sales. After last week's Introversion Software sale, this time around they're featuring a cast of games selected by youtuber PewDiePie. So pay what you want and get a DRM-free download and a Steam key ($1 min) for Botanicula, McPixel, and Thomas Was Alone:

image image image

The beat-the-average bonus game is Amnesia: The Dark Descent:

image

The current average to beat is around $2.75. Additionally all games come with their respective OST as usual, so you'll also be able to listen to The Showdown Effect one even though you won't be able to play the game natively.

image

Without much time to recover after the successful Let's Build a Doujin Bundle, Groupees have launched the Build a Meridian 4 Megabundle. Unfortunately only one from a gazillion games in this bundle is available on Linux, Deadly 30 (Desura key):

image

In fact we just lied. There actually IS another Linux game in the bundle: Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood which is available on Desura, but here only comes in the form of a Steam key where it's only available for Windows. :(

So with only one native game in it, and being a build-a-bundle deal, we don't think this bundle is worth it. At least for the moment, as we couldn't -and didn't- contact the other games' developers so maybe some of them have plans for releasing Linux versions of their titles. One can only hope. ;)

ShinyLoot isn't taking a break either and after last week's Point and Click Week they have been running the Get Tactical Week since Monday. That means this deal is ending today, so be quick if you want to get any of the 4 DRM-free Linux games available at 50% off. They are Tales of Maj'Eyal, Desert Stormfront, Tropical Stormfront, and Hacker Evolution: Duality:

image image image image

As we said all games are available DRM-free, plus Tales of Maj'Eyal comes with a Desura key and Hacker Evolution: Duality with a Steam key.

UPDATE: This sale is over.

IndieGameStand continues to support Linux in their deals. Right now they're featuring one of our anticipated games, DROD RPG: Tendry's Tale:

image

As usual you can pay what you want to get it -- provided your will is higher than $0.25, that is. If you also beat the average -currently around $2.15- you'll also get the previously featured DROD: Gunthro and the Epic Blunder:

image

We're not entirely sure whether or not the bonus game comes with a Desura key like it did the first time it was featured on IndieGameStand. The main feature is DRM-free only, though. Besides the game, the beat-the-average bonus also includes the soundtracks from DROD RPG, DROD: Architects Edition and DROD: Journey to Rooted Hold. The deal will be available for little less than 2 days, so don't hesitate too much or else you risk being late to get it!

· Seeing ShinyLoot's latest promotions we feel confident enough to predict another weekly sale starting tomorrow. After point & click adventures and tactical strategy games, what genre will come next?

· And regarding our usual IndieGameStand watchlist, after crossing out their current deal the remaining potential games are Pandora: Purge of Pride, SickBrick, and Party of Sin -- this last one only allegedly coming to Linux.

And that was all for now! We'll try to be back to publishing this column on Thursdays but we won't be promising anything just in case. In the meantime just check our sales page to keep tabs with the latest Linux games sales and bundles. See you next week! ;)

In fact we just lied. There actually IS another Linux game in the bundle: Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood which is available on Desura, but here only comes in the form of a Steam key where it's only available for Windows

Well, the port for Linux has been made by another company and Meridian4 has no rights on it, so they can not provide a key for Desura. Therefore you would have to ask Runesoft which has bought the rights for a Linuxport. So you have Windows only on Steam and Linux only on Desura.
